Are there any cheapish digital tyre inflators out there (£40) that
come with crocodile clips, internal battery or main adapter instead of the cigarette lighter adapter? I wanted to pick one up to blow my tyres up as a lot of the air pumps at garages near me are not working at the moment. Unfortunately my cars cig lighter don't work even when the car is switched on. |

Get a decent calibrated tyre guage and a decent manual foot pump. Will last far longer, cheaper and more accurate. |

None of them do, but it's not that difficult to join two wires to the cigarette lighter plug and attach some crocodile clips on the ends. Make sure the wire going to the tip of the plug goes to the positive! |

The gauges on the electric inflators are so inaccurate as to be worthless, and unless you have some physical shortcomings a foot pump is actually faster. Chris -- Remove prejudice to reply. |

I have an electric one that reads twice what the actual pressure is...and goes up to a maximum of 210 psi! |

I don't know of any of these compressors with a decent gauge. I use a jump start pack and a separate accurate gauge. The battery still works the compressor adequately long after it has ceased being capable of delivering the current needed for a jump start. But if the fag lighter plug is the only real problem with a car battery driven one, easy enough to hack it off and replace with croc clips. Or make up an adaptor lead so you have the choice. -- *Why is the third hand on the watch called a second hand? Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

One run off the car battery and the other as part of a jump start pack. Both still work just fine. Despite being cheaper than a good quality foot pump. Which can be quite hard work. ;-) -- *I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Buy one with a cigarette lighter plug, chop it off and fit crocodile clips. You can buy them in Maplin or RS Components or something. -- Douglas |
