Default getting import home

Hello all. I think this has been coveered to some extent before, but I
haven't been able to find the answers I'm looking for:

I'm about to buy a Jap import that has not yet been SVA tested or
registered, but has had the relevant work done. The place I'm buying it
from is some distance from my home, and I'm reluctant to leave the car
there pending the test (there is quite a backlog of jobs at the test
centre local to the current owner). Can I legitimately drive the car
back to my house without an SVA and insured on its chassis number?
Furthermore, if I do this, should I just leave the Jap plates on, or go
naked? Lastly, what documentation should I get from the current owner on
collection?

Thanks for any help, Jim.

as far as i now you can only drive the car home if you have booked the car in for its test so if stopped on the road you have proof it is going to be tested i now of some people who have booked the test to get the car home them rang the test centre to cancel to another day insurance is a must have not shure about the plates keep all your docs with you as proof of ownership hope this is of some help
