OT ish - fuel consumption at tickover. by MVP
How can you work out what the fuel consumption is at tickover over long periods? Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to be sitting my my car with the engine and heater running for about 6 hours at a time, anyone know how much fuel this will use? It averages 25mpg (petrol) when driving. It's a 3.2 Jaguar and tickover is about 750rpm i think. --

Lubricant for overhauling LPG hand pump? by athol
A couple of months ago, I bought an LPG hand pump on eBay. It was about 1000km away, and it took me until a week ago to organise to get it from a friend who collected it for me. Anyway, it appears that it's been sitting for an extended period of time and needs to be stripped down, cleaned, checked and reassembled before I can use it. Does anyone have any suggestions on suitable or...

To "T" or not to "T" by mark
The last conversion i did I "T"ed off the heater pipes for the vapouriser.. from that day forward the car heater wasn't all that brilliant. my latest car is '96 Rover 420 ..I intend to convert this.... I say as long as the car does not have a valve on the heater pipes that stops the flow ..then its OK just to run the main heater pipe thru the vapouriser without having to resort to T's which...

Ford Focus Necam system, lazy cylinder? by The Mac Guy
I have a Ford Focus 2004 with a factory-fitted Necam 'hybrid' system (using a Ford ECU) which is using solenoid injectors.(many thanks to the very knowledgable Terry of Finedon Classic Conversions for his help in establishing all this). I'm told that the injectors are pretty standard units. When running on LPG I notice that the engine doesn't pull as well as on petrol, and notice that one of the...

Asymetrical mixture by Peter
This only started several months ago - O2 sensors shows bank 1 is considerably leaner than bank 2. Of course this only happens on single-point LPG when mixture is the same for both banks, in petrol mode fuel trims for both banks are adjusted independently. What could be the problem here? It idles smoothly, and the mixture misbalance is there regardless of RPMs Peter

Bigas SGIS help required. Update by George Gosbee
Confusion grows faster than I do, Its a V6 fitted across the car, the cylinders are numbered looking from the front 3-2-1 front bank 6-5-4 rear bank. This is from the manual, it also states the firing order as 1-6-3-5-2-4. So do you think I should follow the firing order i.e. gas injector A= cyl 1, gas injector B= cyl 6 etc. As the A=1 B=2 etc dident work it makes sence to me...

Passat low rev misfire fixed by stevet
Hi I thought I would let you know the fix for the low rev misfire on my LPG Passat. The car has a Necam EGI system fitted. I took the car to BPV in slough where Barry seemed to know what he was talking about. The problem was dirt in the lpg distributor. The distributor has a stepper motor on top and four pipes out to each cylinder which has a dumb injector/valve thingy. I'm told a piston...

omvl for bigger engines by Angus Robins
I'm no car mechanic and am a newbie to this area...in a previous post an OMVL system was recommended to me. Living in Applecross (very remote, by British standards) I need to know that I can get my car sorted without any hassle, so I was unsure when Landi systems were plugged as unreliable. My local 'approved installer' tells me that the OMVL system is ideal for larger engines; however, he...

stupid question by MVP
stupid question.. I've only had diesel cars in the past. I've decided to replace the spark plugs in my car as i have no idea when they were last done and I think they may be partly responsible for a backfire problem. manufacturer recommends Champion, the guy i got the car from who did the conversion (trader) recommends NGK so i've ordered six of these. manufacturer says spark gap 0.9mm are spark...

Bigas SGIS help required. by George Gosbee
Hello all, Just run the second-hand SGIS system I have fitted to my Cit XM 3.0 1998 for the first time. Two things are not right. 1.... The rpm on the laptop is only 2/3 of the dash reading???? 2.... Its running very rough may be to do with the above? but a thought I had when I was fitting it was how does it know the firing order, i.e. I have fitted the No 1 signal wire to the neg wire of...

Does LPG wear out the engine more than petrol? by A.Lee
A Rodgers arodgers wrote: Does LPG wear out an engine more than using petrol? Should I expect a shorter life from a car that has been run on LPG or at least more repairs needed? Gas is cleaner, so in theory, a LPG engine should last longer than a petrol engine. Is it more risky buying a 2nd hand car with over 100k on clock that
