Default Insurance Companies DVLA and Certification

Hi,

I have a Ford Scorpio Cosworth and anm about to fit the Romano SGI system.
I have all the necessary info to install it as well as having taken it off
the donor car. I also have the connection leads and software to programme
it.

I have been told that it needs certifying before it can be insured, but
some on here mention that some companies don't require this. Which
companies don't ask for the certifivcate and do I need one to register the
car with the DVLA as dual fuel so I can avoid congestion charging etc?

Thanks in advance

In my experience, you'll be doing very well to find a company that
doesn't. This is a fairly recent developement (my insco never asked
for one when I did my conversion, but they would now), and a while ago
I put together a web page in the hope of finding those that were more
sympathetic to LPG installations, particularly DIY installations. I
never heard of any that don't now need some sort of certification. The
page still exists here

In truth, I don't think many insurance reps. (the people who actually
talk to you) know what LPG is. Phone around and see what different
companies now say, but in the end you may have to find an LPGA
approved installer to certify your work.

Unless the rules have changed lately, you don't need a certificate for
the DVLA, but you should inform them of the change. The conversion
will only count towards congestion charge exemption if your car is on
the Powershift Register *and* the converter is too. The current
register is here (links to a .pdf file)

Hi
You have to send your log book of to DVLA as you have changed the fuel and if you dont tell them you are commiting an offence.
Now mot is logged in on the internet any discrepancys when you present the car have to be logged to the dvla and you get a fail!

Interesting. I've just put my car through the new computerised MoT. I
was in the examiner's office while he logged my car onto the system.
The car is registered with the DVLA as being dual fuel, but it came up
on the screen as petrol only. It also came up with the wrong engine
type and stated that the last test was conducted whist running on
petrol (wrong). None of these details had any option to amend them.

Nonetheless, the examiner was able to conduct the test on LPG, and the
test certificate stated LPG on it. There seemed no question of a fail
based on the log-on details. But I wonder if at some point in the
future, the exhaust gas analyser will be linked into the system, and
if the system says petrol only (wrongly) then there is no option but
to conduct the test on petrol.

The examiner put the blame squarely on Siemens, who administrate the
system - apparently they didn't want to pay the DVLA for access to
their database, so at the moment a database is being created by the
log-on procedure. The fact is that some of their options (all done by
drop-down menus) do not contain the right details.

He also pointed out that every test is timed, from log-in to
completion, and it *has* to take a minimum of 25 minutes. This
includes a retest, where he only needs to look at a repair. So this
probably spells the end of the free re-test.

Anybody else found any anomalies?
