A couple of months ago, I bought an LPG hand pump on eBay. It was about
1000km away, and it took me until a week ago to organise to get it from a friend who collected it for me. Anyway, it appears that it's been sitting for an extended period of time and needs to be stripped down, cleaned, checked and reassembled before I can use it. Does anyone have any suggestions on suitable or unsuitable types of oil or grease for this application? Obviously, the quantities involved will be very small and I'm thinking along the lines of an LPG compatible engine oil. I'm not sure what the seals are likely to be made of, and whether engine oil might damage them. Suggestions? -- Athol http://cust.idl.com.au/athol Linux Registered User # 254000 The state of infrastructure in New South Wales is a disgrace. I'm a Libran Engineer. I don't argue, I discuss. |

However, the wonder that is Google (spit) turned up this site http://www.efunda.com/designstandard...SC=Propane#mat It enables you to check out chemical compatibility with O-ring material. So selecting 'Propane' from the list will give you some results of likely materials that the seals may be made from, and then selecting (for example) 'Automatic Transmission Oil' will guide you as to which of those are compatible. It may give you some idea, anyway. -- TSH For email, replace 'SpamOnlyToHere' with my initials LPG info. page: www.tshargrave.co.uk Now with added Biodiesel |

However, the wonder that is Google (spit) turned up this site http://www.efunda.com/designstandard...SC=Propane#mat Interesting. So if I had any idea what the seals are made from, I could get a good idea of what lubricants would be okay. I suppose at least if I have to replace all of the seals, I'll know what to use. :-) It enables you to check out chemical compatibility with O-ring material.
