Bloke selling a Transit says it's had a conversion done by these guys, in
Wolverhampton, and that it's a far superior conversion to the standard Ford factory LPG conversion. Is he right? It's got about 200k on the clock, and had a top end rebuild at 180k - said it was worn out and that petrol engines don't last as long as diesel engines. Well in my experience, and from what I've heard of modern oils and longevity these days, I can't see any reason in the world why something regularly serviced with modern synthetic oils (it uses fully synth) wouldn't still be fine after even 300-400k, like most BMW straight-6 engines (as an example), and Volvo/Saab, etc etc, have happily managed for ages. Suppose it could be the 30k oil drain intervals (which I'll be decreasing to 10k, personally). Anyway - AG Nicholas McLaren - do they do a good LPG conversion? -- Called Pete? Cant say about the LPG conversion people, but it'd have been the valve seats that were shot in all probabilty rather than anything else in the 2.3 I4. My Central heating firm runs a fleet of LPG'd vehicles, some are OEM current shape Trannys; which he says are always giving annoying problems but generally go ok. timm.. |

If you mean Nicholson McLaren in Finchampstead (near Wokingham), when they re-did my Range Rover they did a very professional job. Their main business is making racing engines, so they know what they're doing. However, that's not to say that somebody else couldn't do a bodge job of fitting one of their kits. |
