"Philip" wrote in message news:... "Steve" wrote in message news ![]() My dad's got an Omega 1.8 - not the same car or engine I know - but prone to stalling. The idle control valve gets gummed up and sticks. A common problem on Vauxhalls. I cleaned his out with carb cleaner, plus vauxhall did a mod on the 1.8 to add an oil seperator in the breather. It's been fine since. At one year old though the dealer should be able to sort it. be interested to know what the fix is. regards Steve Hi They have said it needs a new vaporiser. They say there is a sensor/electronic problem and as they are sealed units it needs replacing. Regards Philip Hi An update. Vauxhall dealer fitted new vaporiser, apparently this didn't seem to fix the problem, so they fitted new spark plugs. It seemed better on first driving it, but has started to exhibit the same sort of problem within a few miles. On stopping (clutch down) the engine gets close to stalling before jumping back up to normal tick over, when driving on petrol it is fine. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern, sometimes it is okay when I stop other times it struggles. It is as though when I take my foot of the accelerator the gas flow is stopping completely for a split second and so the engine starts to die then it recovers. Before going in to be looked at the car had stalled a total of 4 times, one of those was when I just changed gear and so I effectively bump started it as the clutch came up! It has hovered around stalling point many times, very annoying, and still seems to be the same after being fixed. Guess it will have to go back again. Is the Idle control valve in the vaporiser? Regards Philip |

Regards Philip Maybe the idle speed is just a ;little too low for gas. See if you can raise it at all, just a mere 30rpm can make a big difference -- hugh Reply to address is valid at the time of posting |
