Hi All,
I'm going to strip the V8 engine down on my hybrid Land rover so she really healthy for when she finally gets built. Anyway is there any mods/improvements i can do the the engine in its stripped down state to make it more suited to LPG conversion it will have. the engine is a V8 3.5 efi cheers Jinx |

Otherwise my only other suggestion would be to check/refit the valves, tappets, rods, lifters etc etc - they'll improve the engine in any case whether you were going to LPG it or not. Have a good think about where you are going to site the mixer and feed into the air intake - on mine the guy squeezed the whole lot in using the original siting points and it makes fitting a new air filter a triumph of ingenuity - so a little thought beforehand will go a long way. Stick the cam from a 3.9 EFi in there - it'll give you a little bit more power (you could fit a much sexier specialist cam but the 3.9 one is a fairly cheap substitute - especially if you are replacing the original anyway) - just be advised that the bolt in the end of the 3.9 cam is not the same as that in the 3.5 so you'll have to buy one of those too. Some later 3.5 cams are the same bolt. Valve timing is only 2 degrees advanced over std with a 3.9 cam, lift is the same, so don't expect massive gains. Most people say they are the bee's knees, but they are comparing it to the probably knackered cam they removed. Real difference is about 3bhp withthe torque peak coming in about 200rpm lower. Otherwise my only other suggestion would be to check/refit the valves, tappets, rods, lifters etc etc - they'll improve the engine in any case whether you were going to LPG it or not. Try and get vitesse waisted stem valves, gas flow the heads (mildly, simply remove any casting imperfections / sharp steps) and fit pre-SD1 10.5:1 pistons. Skim about 10thou off the heads and build using composite head gaskets instead of the std tin crap. Remember to only torque the outer row of 4 bolts on each head to 40 lb/ft, with a dab of loctite threadlock on those bolts only!
