Where To Buy.. by
Stuffed
Moggie main bearing shells?
30 - 37 quid a set for 6 bits of bent metal seems a bit extortionate to me,
especially when other old 3 bearing engines I've played with have been
nearer 10 - 20 quid!
However, the engine could really do with them, as the old ones are showing
the copper in places. The crank's lightly scored as well, so I've done the
big ends to try and keep the oil pressure up as...

product ideas by
Chris
I am in the final year of a technology education degree course, part of
which involves designing a product and manufacturing it to prototype stage.
The product has to be original, or better designed, than any similar product
on the market. I am posting this message to a number of newsgroups in the
hope that someone will have a problem with a product they use, or can't find
a product to suit...

Missing cylinder by
Dave Gunter
Hi all
Perhaps the collective wisdom of this group can help cast a light on my
missing cylinder.
Car is a 1980 MGBGT, cylinder pressures are 170, 175, 175, 180, plugs,
points, condenser, rotor arm, cap and leads all new. No obvious fouling
on any of the plugs, points at 15 thou and clean. She runs fine for the
first run after cleaning / setting gaps, then next time you start up -
only three...

clutch adjustment on Triumph Herald by
Ron
Is there any way to adjust the travel on the clutch pedal on a 1969
Triumph Herald 1200.
At the moment the clutch does not dis-engage until about 1" from the
floor (without carpets), resulting in plenty of gear crunching -
mainly 1st & 2nd and it is quite a strain on my old knee!
The clutch plates are fairly new (10,000 miles)
Cheers
Ron

BMC A-series engine curiosity by
Les Rose
I have a 948 engine which came out of my first Frogeye, back in 1971. It was
painted gold so I assumed it was a factory Gold Seal unit. It has 950 cast
into the block, but the engine number prefix is 8G. Over 33 years I have
never been able to find out why this prefix violates the BMC convention. Any
ideas?

US Cross Country in a 1913 Rolls.... by
huffreport
Greetings from the States,
I went to a Euro Carshow today, and this lady is there with her 1913 Rolls
Royce Touring Car, that she's DRIVING from Philadelphia to Pebble Beach....
She's ALONE! Heck, I'm scared to drive my '53 Buick to McDonalds! This is
easily the neatest thing I've seen in years.... I've posted a bunch of pics
on my site... This woman deserves to be profiled in USA Today, for...

Lotus Elite V8 - eh? by
Willy Eckerslyke
A friend of my mother's mentioned to her that they're about to move
house and need to get shut of an unfinished project. Initially I heard
it was a 1973 Lotus Elan and pricked up my ears accordingly.
My mother has just phoned again to say she's spoken to them and that
it's an _Elite_ and N reg ('74?) at which point I lost interest somewhat.
What puzzles me is that she's sure they said it's a...

MGB oversize pistons (+0.040) ? by
Jukka
Hi !
I'm looking for MGB oversize pistons (+0.060) to another British car. So,
can you recommend some shops where to find these pistons and also dimensions
for these pistons (height, pin size etc.). I think that Ferguson TEF tractor
has same cylinder diameter, maybe it has same piston than MGB.

Brake pipe flaring tools by
Willy Eckerslyke
Can anyone recommend a cheap brake pipe flaring tool or are only top
quality ones worth bothering with?
I'll eventually need a couple of sets of Morris Minor pipes which are
sold pretty cheaply so may be better off buying them ready made, but
then I wouldn't have a new tool to play with...

I can't -get the front wheel bearings adjusted correctly on the Spitfire.

them.

Oil pump volume output by
Andrew Mawson
Has anyone knowlege of the relative outputs of the two styles of oil pump
('gear' and 'rotary vane') ?
Both have been fitted to the big Healeys over the years, and both are
available and it make sense to fit the one with greater volume delivery. I
suspect that the gear type surplanted the vane type on ease of manufacture
and cost rather than performance but can anyone confirm this?

Anyone want a Rover P6 3.5? by
Alex
Somebody at my Depot in Luton has an old Rover P6, bodywork pretty
well finished, but she assures me it has a good 3.5 v8 with something
like 50K on the clock, it was going to be a resto, but is too far
gone. Car is 1976, but I don't know which engine/carbs it has.
She wants £100, and you'll have to recover it from Luton.
Anybody interested?

AA Badge question by
Richard Cole
From my late fathers estate, I've inherited a couple of car
badges. The CSMA one is on the front of my car, but there is also
an AA badge, flat with the wings on the top, a serial number on
the back(?) and a phone and telegram number on the front. It's
chromed.
What are these worth?
When I looked on the web, e-bay seemed to have only replicas and
the only original I could find was on Canadian...

FF: Triumph 1300FWD in Teesside by
Happy Hippy
Me old Triumph 1300FWD TC needs shifting by the end of the week and I've
given up on it. I just don't have the time spare to look after it and so
rather than scrap it I want to pass it on to someone who might be able to
look after it a bit better.
It failed it's MOT about 2 years ago on some daft indicator problem (was
only working intermittently and the guy who charged me £200 to fix...
