Hi all,
In a range of Rootes cars consisting of Hillman, Humber, Sunbeam and
Singer, what markets would each car have been aimed at? ISTR that a
Hillman was the basic, family model, the Sunbeam the sportier one and the
Humber the posh one. Where does that leave the Singer or have I got it all...

List price of a Ford 100E (Ford Popular) in around 1953 by
Pete W.
In 1953 the new Prefect 100e was launched followed shortly by the Anglia
100e.
Then the 1940's Anglia E04a was fettled and relaunched as the Popular 103e
which remained in production until mid 1959.
Then, the 100e Anglia was discontinued and again fettled and relauched as
the Popular 100e (1959).
Then of course in 1959 we saw the launch of the 105e Anglia.
The Prefect 100e was...

galvanising by
Smokeyone
Has anyone experience of having car body panels galvanised prior to
painting. I know the galvanising process can warp panels and that it
also might be difficult for paint to stick to a galvanised panel but
is it viable.
Thanks

Top Gear 'car darts' game... Brown one. by

Not sure exactly, but I know it wasn't a saab and they certainly didn't do a

The car was a faded metallic brown, so it could have been another colour and
quickly repainted. Some effort had been made to hide whatever it was...
maybe it was a TR7...

Ford Popular from 1953 was a 103E, not a 100E.
The 100E from 1953 was the Anglia/Prefect monocoque.
A 100E during this period was £360 and £395.

Classic insurance on an SD1 Vitesse. by
Mike G
Any suggestions of a Ins Co that might give me a good price.
Haven't tried the SD1 club, as I'm not a member but maybe it would be worth
joining if they've negotiated some favourable rates.
I'll email them but there doesn't appear to be any info on their website re
insurance.
TIA
Mike.

but I just thought I'd ask if somebody knows of a good garage for
servicing & repairs a little closer to home, in Edinburgh.
Many thanks

Argon/CO2 mix for MIG by
Dave Plowman (News)
One other quick question. Does paint, wax etc on the back of the panels
being welded have an adverse effect on the weld - even although the fronts
and faces are shiny clean?

Likely NZ doesn't have a classic car newsgroup. I read and post to a US
BMW one for the same reason.
The post in question was only 1502 bytes - hardly anything to get wound up
over.

Paint spraying by
Mike
My mate has run his own bodyshop / restoration business for twenty years or
more, and I don't think he even possesses a mask or extractor. I am always
amazed at how he seems to be unaffected - I go outside when he sprays a
small panel, I hate to think what a full respray would kick out. I know he
uses mainly cellulose but I think he does some 2-pack stuff too. He probably
wouldn't recommend it to...

Different nuts may require different torques, if they have a different
