Scrapheap challenge last night by
Sean
Last night I watched Scrapheap challenge on one of the satellite
channels, where the teams had to navigate an obstacle course blindfold
(teams using an ambulance and a bus in this case). Dunno if it was a new
episode or a repeat.
The course layout was displayed on a silver car bonnet - was it the
bonnet of a 70s Vauxhall, either a Viva or FE Victor?
Also, where is this scrapyard, because it...

Help! How to sell my Rover P6? by
fishman
How to sell my 1975 P6 2200SC?
I've had no end of problems caused by selling this car, all of them through
time wasting, idiot individuals or scam artists, rather than the quality of
the car itself.
Does anybody on here have any advice? It's been on ebay three times now,
properly listed as a car which isn't cheap and it has made its way on to all
sorts of classic classified sites and has...

Where to buy rubber washers? by
Michael Kilpatrick
I want to remount the electric fans in my car...
I don't want tap washers or specialist injection moulded rubber
products. I simply want to buy a dozen washers of approx 1.5mm to 2m
thickness, approx 15mm diameter with a 6mm hole in the middle.
What could be simpler?
Why is it impossible to find a retailer on the internet? I find this
unbelievable. The local hardware shops are no good...

The speedo on my Triumph Vitesse MkII has just died. I don't suppose any
of you have an unwanted spare knocking about, do you?
It's a Jaeger 120mph job.

Sprite clutch adjustment by
Asolepius
Well folks, I have built the engine and gearbox, and assembled them
together. One problem - clutch won't disengage. The release bearing is too
far from the clutch itself. It's a 948 block and flywheel, and I'm using a
1098 rib case box. The clutch is a 9-spring, and I have used the 1098 engine
backplate. All the research I did told me that this combination should have
worked. The 948 and...

So what engine would YOU use? by
Bill Davies
I've recently acquired yet another Herald, which brings the total to eleven.
The car is reasonably solid but scruffy with filler in wheelarches and a
poor interior. There was just a couple of days MOT left when I bought it,
though that's now expired. The biggest sticking point is the engine, which
is absolutely knackered. Plenty of smoke and an oiled up plug on cylinder
number 3 within 10 miles...

Fuel and Oil by
Paul
I acquired a '52 MG TD yesterday. Perhaps someone would be good enough
to answer the following:
1) On an oil change, is fully synth good for a classic, or is it
better to use an old-fashioned multi-grade?
2) This is an unconverted engine, so, is the red 4* LRP OK on its own?
If not, I need to add a lead replacement additive of course, but
should I use the premium unleaded or the higher octane...

Kenlowe fan as a generator? by
Willy Eckerslyke
The other thread about electrical faults prompted me to mention this
one. I have a Kenlowe fan fitted to my Vitesse with a manual switch
(only) and a warning lamp/reminder on the dash.
While driving at night, I've noticed that the lamp glows slightly -
getting brighter the faster I go. I've checked my wiring and can't see
any obvious shorts, so wondered if the fan might be behaving like a...

Moto-Lita Steering Wheel by
michael musgrave
Hi Group,
I was sorting my father's garage out and I discovered a 14" wooden riveted
steering wheel. It is flat (rather than being dished) and three spoked. Each
spoke has four holes. The boss surround has nine screws. I will be very
pleased to find out which car my father took this from. He died a few years
ago, so obviously I can't ask him. He has numerous bits around his garage,
but even the...

Moto Lita by
Hamish
Michael,
I am restoring a Lotus Elan +2 and have recently bought a new Motolita
leather rim. They (Moto Lita) still make wood rims. Have a look on their
site and/or phone them. They're a good bunch of guys and'll let you know
all about the steering wheel. Four holes in the spokes is probably
something to do with the diameter of the wheel. My wheel is 14" dia and has
3 holes.
Moto Lita...

Thoughts please on electrical fault by
Kieran Turner
Hi group,
I'm considering (more with heart than head) buying a fastback Sunbeam Alpine
c.1973.
The vendor tells me it has a weird electrical problem and I'm keen to get
some opinions about what it might be before I lumber myself with the
problem. I think I'm pretty good with electrics, so will be able to cope
with the fix, but initial diagnosis can be a bugger as we all know... ;)

Q cars by
John Redman
What utterly bog-standard looking motor would you most like to soup up to an
evil extent, and why?
Mine would be (sorry 'bout this) Mk 1 Orion, because I had a 1.6i new as my
first ever car. I'd want the RS Turbo engine in it with suspension and brake
mods to match but with the exterior left completely standard.
Even now I cannot explain why. Nostalgia tempered with recognition that they...
