Mystery controls & switches in a XJ6 by
Jonathan Halsall
I recently acquired a 1984 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Sovereign: Only probably a mystery
to me, but please can anyone tell me:
a) what the switch in the middle of the four electric window switches on the
sloped panel after of the gear selector is for?
b) the slide below the radio unit that's something to do with hot/cold air -
what's that for?
c) on the trip computer - the fuel function (far left button)...

I now need to put my Sprite's new laminated screen into the frame, but can't
find anyone who knows how to do it. A net search has revealed nothing. Any

Mercedes 300SE by

Not a classic (yet ?) but was looking at one of these old buses at the
weekend, and this groups wide range of knowledge has always been useful
in the past (a little buttering up never hurts :o) )
Shes a '92 F plater automatic, FSH and approx 70,000 on the clock.
Condition and paintwork (the usual silver) certainly bears out the
claims for mileage and servicing ... no visible rust and a...

Oil pressue help needed - please by
Lee Griffiths
Hi all,
I'm running a 1300 Fiat X19. It's a lowish milage car, 57K, and shows
excellent oil pressure on idle (about 25-30psi) and at 3K rpm (60 psi)
The problem is that when I start it from cold I get a knock for about a
second until the oil light goes out. If I then immediatley stopped the
engine and started it again - no knock. Also no knock when the engine
is restarted when warm.

Registration number issuing dates by
Malcolm
I used to have a bookmark to a website that gave the dates when a specific
range of registration letters/numbers were issued by local authorities but
I've lost it. For example it would say something to the effect that number
"ABC xxx" was issued by Leicester Registration Authority and give the date
they started the range and the date they stopped.
It was associated with the website of one...

Removing indentation from leather steering wheel rim. by
Philip Stokes
Have just acquired a 30 year old Capri steering wheel with a leather
rim. Condition as new apart from one small indentation across the rim
where it appears to have been stored against an object like the edge of
a box.
Is there any way to persuade this slight depression to come out? The
leather is not marked in any way, just lightly indented.

Nine year old Mini. by
Kitty
I have been left by a 91 year old relative who passed away three weeks ago a
"N" reg , Mini Mayfair 1275 car that has done a GENUINE 5,456 miles in the
nine years since he bought it. It honestly looks about 18 months old, MOT
and is the one with the "Wallnut" dash. This is totally true mileage.
Does anyone want to swap it for a GOOD Morris Minor. WHY.
Kitty.

Fifth gear abuse? by
DocDelete
I've always slotted my car of the moment into top (or fifth gear) just as
soon as the engine's torque allows. I've contented myself that the lower
revs will aid economy, but I may possibly get a bit of plug sooting (I tend
to drive old cars). I guess I compensate for this as I'm not afraid to use
revs to overtake / get clear of traffic / etc.
On balance it seems to work, but I'm now driving...
