Touch-up paint? by
Geoff Mackenzie
Problem - several small (eighth of an inch square maximum) stone chips on
the front of the car. It's dark blue, primer is white/light grey, so they
show up. Solution - easy - touch-up paint. The sort that comes in a small
botlle with a nail varnish type brush attached to the inside of the lid.
Next problem - it doesn't seem to exist any more. I've tried motor factors
from Halfords to...

Spitfire Houndstooth Seats by
Rusty[_2_]
I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me locate the
correct Beige houndstooth fabric that was used on the 1977-1980
triumph spitfires.
I've seen the seat covers that are made by Newton Commercial and the
houndstooth fabric is a perfect match. Only thing is the beige vinyl
is a very bad match. Please pictu

Who offers Dry-Ice Blasting in Scotland? by
simon crowder
Hi,
I want to get the underbody protection stripped off my car for
restauration work. While chemical removal or sand-blasting are options,
I heard that dry-ice blasting is the best way to get this done.
Doeas anyone know of a specialist in Scotland who can offer that service?
Thanks, Simon.

Ford's latest "innovation" by
Geoff Mackenzie
Heard on BBC World Service last night - a spokesman from Ford talking about
the new engine, due to be introduced in 2009. Apparently it stops
automatically when the car is staionary, then restarts itself when you
depress the accelerator. Wonderful for fuel consumption, emissions etc.
Quite revolutionary. Except that he then admitted that they had introduced
something similar about five...

Electric fan only - a no-no on a big diesel? by
Willy Eckerslyke
As I'm slowly getting my Land Rover Series 3 project together, I've
realised that there's very little clearance between the fan and the
radiator. It has a Perkins 4.203 (3.3 litre) engine out of a 6-cylinder
109 where it had been mounted further back taking advantage of the
recessed bulkhead. This one's a 4-cyl so that's not an option.
So, I have the choice of risking half of inch between fan...

Power steering ram overhall by
Classic Car Man
I'm looking for somewhere that can replace the seals (which I have) in a
power steering ram from a 1963 Austin.
I'm in Lincolnshire, but can travel.
I've tried the VDP club and local hydraulic firms, but this needs a couple
of special tools which they don;t have.
HELP!!!

Banger or classic? Acid test. by
Ian Dalziel
My current daily driver developed a slight squeal a couple of days
ago. Probably the alternator belt, might just be something in the new
clutch. It's been raining or snowing, so I haven't got round to
looking. Shortly after I set off this morning, the noise stopped.
Now, what would your reaction have been?
"Oh good, it's cleared!"

1275 "A"+ Series by
gazzafield
I have a Ledbury Maestro with an "A"+ 1275 engine. When it has been left
sitting for more than a day or two it is very "three cylindery" for a good
number of miles. Up to about 50 miles of my usual DC and motorway driving
is usually needed to get rid of the problem completely. It is usually when
it is under load but will also drop to three while sitting idling from time
to time.
I put...

Source for small UNF and BA bolts by
Ian
Folks,
As I stick the Herald back together again, I find I need lots of small
nuts and bolts. Number 10 UNF, I think, with some 0BA. Namrick does
some 10 UNF - but all hex head, and I could do with a mixture of hex,
countersunk and cheese head. Same problem with 0BA (from other
suppliers).
Can anyone recommend a supplier of a reasonable selection of these
things?

Jaguar S-Type - Need advice on buying, running and maintaining by
rehanog@gmail.com
Hello,
I am thinking about buying a late 60's s-type 3.8 (manual), and was
wondering if anyone could advise on what they are like to run and
maintain (I would be using it as an everyday car).
A friend of mine owned a couple of jags from the same period and
warned that the engine's weren't that reliable - he had leaking oil
and overheating on both.

Make your DREAMS reality! Of Buying NEW CAR by
roger
Purchasing a car is a dream that everyone wants to realize. But not
everyone can afford to buy a car at one go. Availing a loan is not a
bad idea in such a situation.
But what to do if a person is having a bad credit status?
Bad creditors find it difficult to apply for any loan but due to the
tight competition existing in the market. Lenders are now ready to
advance loan to such people. Car...

Physical dimensions of MGB engine by
Bill Davies
I'm trying to work out some basic dimensions for a potential project. I need
to find the external dimensions of a BMC B-series engine, specifically as
fitted in the MGB. I have side on photographs of the engine and gearbox, if
someone can provide one or more of the key dimensions, then I can roughly
calculate the other dimensions from that.
Thanks for any help,
Cheers,
Bill.

Importing to the UK by
caroline
Just acquired a '79 VW Type 2 Westy Berlin from Ireland.
But its newly imported in to Ireland from the USA, all import taxes and
duties paid....but not registered.
How are the DVLA and HM Customs likely to handle this.
Technically its being imported from an EU country, so *shouldn't* require
further import duties or taxes...but has never been registered in an EU
country.

Hepolite piston numbers for Ford Crossflow by
Neil McD.[_2_]
Does anybody know of online access to an AE Hepolite catalogue which could
help me identify some 1960/70's piston sets I have - I'm fairly sure they
are Ford Crossflow, just not sure which versions!
The reference numbers a 18679, 18681 (old number17561 - I think these are
1300 x-flow) and 20549 (old number 17566) in case anybody recognises them.

Austin 7 Swallow enquiry. by
Mike G
Looking for pics similar to one I had many years ago.
It was a 1930 2 seater convertible, with a boat-tail and a bull nosed
radiator.
Lower than a std Austin 7. About the same hight as a Nippy.
The closest in appearance I've found is this one.
http://snipurl.com/1xcib
Similar doors but mine had separate bucket seats, a proper folding hood with
detachable side windows, and a one piece windscreen....
