refurbing door seals on a "soon to be/modern" classic. by Sleeker GT Phwoar
OK, so not strickly a true classic yet, but I'm sure in a few years all the GT4 models will be, even though it is Japanese. It has a problem. Although the door seals are in very good condition, it is a frameless door design. It lets in a lot of wind noise. Ironically to worst area isn't arround the windows, but at the lower leading edge of the door (I can feel the breeze blowing up between...

Brake cylinder corrosion by Asolepius
I know this has been discussed before, but I remain puzzled. The 15-year rebuild of my Mk 1 Sprite is finished, except that the master cylinder has gone rusty - again! First of all I honed out the brake and clutch bores, assembled the unit, wrapped it up and stored it away in the house. When I assemble the system I found the bores had rusted in storage. So I honed it again. By this time I...

Wanted: TR6 mechanic in Edinburgh by Tim Shields
Hi all, OK, so the shame of my life is that i've left my TR6 standing for the last year (not my fault - honest) - but now I have to get it moved (by the 26th May). Now of course that damn thing wont even think about starting. It cranks's over, but no hint of it starting and I really don't know enough about cars to get them going again!

Shorrock blower on a Frogeye by Healey Man
has anyone seen one of these fitted? I have most of the parts in kit form, but the bigger front pulley will be just touching the front crossmember by the look of it, any ideas? I could cut out the crossmember like on the Big Healey, but I'm not sure if that is wise.... or I could make some kind of tie bar to hold the engine back a few millimeters. what is the recommended way? Old number plates - regional codes by Alex
Does anybody have any online reference for a listing of the old two-letter area codes for pre-65 registrations? I'm trying to find a listing of the old area codes, where they were issued from etc etc, and preferably which ones are currently being re-issued as age-related or "new" plates. The usual searches on google etc produce reams of information about companies selling plates, which I...

If (When) MG Rover go bust will I still be able to get spares for my MGF? by David
Ive got an S Reg MGF and I was just wondering if the death of MG Rover will mean parts become impossible to get or if other companies will just end up buying the rights and manufacturing spares? ....MG Rover is not the first company to go to the wall, so what has happend in the past? Also, I will be selling it this summer and current cars for sale in Auto Trader etc suggest that I could...

hiring a sports car by mark
Apologies if this is the wrong group :) Feel free to point etc. We are interested in hiring a sports car to drive from the UK to Italy (attending a wedding) and back again. Anyone done this? Classic would be nice but modern will do (Porsche being preferred). I would actually prefer to get on the ferry etc. and hire a left hooker in France; I find it easier to drive a 'local' car rather than be...
