skimming rockers by
Maurice
Gentlemen,
Unfortunately for me I cannot buy new rockers anymore for my Volvo 1800E, so
have decided to have them skimmed instead due to some of them being slightly
worn.
I would be interested knowing from the group if this can make matters worse,
better, or hardly any difference.
Respectfully

MG Accident Repair by
Arthur Bullard
Hello,
My partner misjudged a bend in our '72 MGB GT on Saturday and, to cut
a long story short, we ended up on our side (nearside) in a ditch. Both
of us were fine, and the car has sustained surprisingly little damage.
The left front wing and left door have both dented, but no paint
breakage. The windscreen is broken on the left side, and there is
kinking in the roof - it looks like the...

Lead replacement additives - advice, please! (Essex V6) by
Ed Hughes
I use a 1966 Land-Rover with a Ford Essex V6 engine conversion (lovely old
thing!) to do local trips towing a powerboat, carrying canoes and
windsurfers etc. The last garage selling LRP locally is ceasing to do so
shortly, leaving me with a problem.
I suspect that unleaded would damage this engine in time, which leaves some
form of additive as the only practicable option. Driving any distance to...

XJS speed in gears by
chris.lloyd@futurenet.co.uk
Hello there,
I've recently got my hands on a 4.0 XJS. The speedo gets to about 50
and then starts wobbling about, before heading upwards. The result is a
shortfall of about 5-10 mph.
Does anybody know what the speed in gears are? Per 1,000 revs in fourth
and fifth (it's a manual). I have googled but can't see anything
obvious anywhere.

Water Temp Gauge Woes by
callmepaul@zetnet.co.uk
Hi, this is a 52 MG TD. The gauge is non-electrical, and appears to
work by the expansion of a fluid in phial, which is then pushed up a
pipe to activate the gauge. As I say, assume this is the way it works,
but not sure.
Anyway, I recently removed the rad, and when I put it all back
together, the gauge stopped working. I don't know if I nipped the pipe
somehow and broke or squashed it, or the...

Door rubber restorer? by
Doki
I seem to remember seeing ads for door / window rubber restorer somewhere.
Does the stuff work or is it cack? I'm thinking of 15 year old rubbers on a
MK2 golf that are getting a bit ropey (window scraper and door seal
specifically).

seized axle plug by
shane
Hi, I want to top the the oil up in a rear axle, as previously it was
leaking, but the filler plug is seized.
Someone has tried to remove it before slightly rounding the nut so that
now a socket will not fit.
I have brought some stillsons, but has anyone got any tips to make it
easier to get off without damaging the plug, for example would heating
the plug up first help?

Ford part number to vehicle id please. by
mrcheerful .
I am having a clear out and I have come across a new McPherson type
suspension leg for a Ford. Trouble is, that I don't know what it fits, I
could hazard a guess at Capri, but does anyone know what it really fits: It
is a Fitchel and Sachs leg marked with a big L and the numbers:
TF32x152A
04 1500 100 227
H75AB 3K 034 AA
Any ideas please?

European breakdown cover by
md
There was a thread a little while ago about this but it ended up in a
discussion about insurers own breakdown cover. My insurer doesnt offer this,
and my current breakdown cover mob dont either, so I started ringing round
to cover a 9 day trip to France for the Minors On Tour event next weekend.
The ONLY mob prepared to quote are so far the AA, with a rather entertaining
offer of £89 for the...
