Spam from Practical Classics by
Malcolm
Has anyone else received a spam email from a Richard Luff, Directory
Manager of Practical Classics trying to flog advertising space in their
forthcoming directory? To make it worse it has over 13Meg of Word docs as
attachments. I'm only glad I'm on broadband.
As it seems to originate from the EMAP server is there any point in
complaining?

Oil loss from new engine by
Asolepius
Well the good news is that the Sprite passed the MOT yesterday after the
15-year rebuild. I have done about 15 miles so far and have noticed clouds
of stuff coming out of the top and bottom breather pipes (which go into a
1.5 L catch tank). I reckon it will do this until the rings are bedded in,
but there is a lot of oil being blown out of the filler cap and running down
the engine. I...

Engine Paint by
richard.ingall
hi guys, does anyone have any experience of using a GOOD heatproof engine
paint? In particular, I'm trying to get hold of a gloss (not satin) black.
Have just bought some of Halfords own brush-on, it's like water to apply
(not good), and doesn't cover over well.
Also searching for some coloured heat proof paint for when I rebuild the
motor in my Punto GT, block is red from factory - anyone know...

SD1 Radiator filler plug by
Dave Plowman (News)
Mine is plastic and decided to split as I replaced it after fitting a new
bottom hose and re-filling.
Rimmer wants 4.38 for a plastic one, 6.73 for brass.
89p in brass from B&Q - it's standard 1/2" BSP. ;-)

Fancy a Mini Cooper anyone? A quick respray and it'd be as good as new.

If I worked for the DVLA, I'd take a very close interest in anything

Why would anyone want a Classic car? by
Dribbler
I hope I am not opening a can of worms here, but can anyone please tell me
what the attraction is in classic cars?
My son is a 6ft 3" rugby player and delights in squeezing his large frame
into an old Triumph Herald. It constantly breaks down and yet he never
looses enthusiasm for this beast - even the RAC have now put his phone
number on block! I can see that it is 'only' £600 insurance and no...

Anyone like Mustangs, Corvettes etc.? by
¤¤¤ Abo ¤¤¤
Get to Mallory Park on Sunday. In addition to our two truck races, there
will be a bunch of classic and post-historic touring car races.
Mustangs, Corvettes, Dolomite Sprints, Mini Coopers, RX3's etc. etc. Should
be cool.

"Elmo" keys for Austin Goodwood by
John Geddes
A friend is trying to get a copy of a key for his Austin 14 Goodwood, 1938.
The key is marked "Elmo" and he understands that it was one of a fairly
limited batch made by M Mole and Sons of Birmingham. A local locksmith
(with a comprehensive range) had no suitable blank.
Has anyone any suggestions on possible sources?

RX7 engine life and rebuild costs ? by
Andy Dingley
FOAF has recently (two weeks ago) bought himself an RX7 - fairly recent
curvy sort, but with some mileage on it. Anyway, the obvious has
happened - it died on the road and came home on a low-loader, suffering
from sick rotor seals.
1) I thought they'd stopped doing that years ago ? Do they last a
reasonable time now, or are they still dodgy with any mileage on them ?
How much can you expect...

Environmental campaigners say all cars could be green by
Roger
The message
from "Ivan" contains these words:
However if the fact that they already screw owners even more tax for
standard diesel (which emits less CO2 into the atmosphere) is anything to go
on, then I won't be holding my breath
Diesel is by no means as green as The Greens would have us believe.
In an article in The Independent...

Classic Insurance by
Adrian
Any "Must ring" companies?
I'm looking for a multi car policy, and I rate quality of service higher
than *absolute* low price, but I won't pay over the top for it.
I also need flexibility on what they'll cover.
Oh, and I need to sort it today.
