Galloway E-types by
Ian Johnston
Hi Folks,
I live in rural Galloway, in south west Scotland. Over the last two
days I have seen either three or four smart E-types pootling around
the area. Trust me, this is a remarkably high number. Is there a rally
going on somewhere here, or has there maybe been one in Northern
Ireland?

Tim Birkin bio? by
peter_mcqueen@hotmail.com
I don't know a thing about cars or car racing, but I recently saw "Full
Throttle" with Rowan Atkinson (mainly because Atkinson was in it), and
it got me interested. I was wondering if there actually was a bio
written about Birkin as depicted in the movie, and if so where it might
be found. I am also interested, what is the top speed that race cars
get up to these days? I know this is...

Fast and cheap classic? by
CML
I hae been toying with the idea of getting a classic and hiding it away
in a remote garage for weekend blasts.
I used to own an MGB GT which I enjoyed enormously, but I found it a
tad slow. I haven't got oodles of cash but I don't mind driving
something a bit tatty (two to three thousand at most).
My question is: are there any decent classics (60s or early 70s
ideally) that are also capable of...

Top Gear on E and DB by
CML
Did we all see Clarkson and co. try an E-Type and a DB5? They were
certainly charmed by the looks (almost impossible not to be).
However, Clarkson was not impressed by the performance at all. A bit
embarassing really. Modern cars are really very fast, even terribly
ordinary ones with no sporting pretentions.
What Clarkson and Co. failed to point out though is that have to thrash
the car,...

Ford Cortina MkII alternator retrofit by
spork.sporkman@gmail.com
Hello,
Yesterday I was helping a friend replace his alternator in a MkII. He
was going from a unit with a built-in voltage regulator to a two-piece
setup (alternator + external regulator).
It seems to work - 12V when not running, then the voltage rises when
the car is running and tops out at 13.8V when revved.
One problem... There is a blue wire coming from the tachometer that

Revitalising an Acid Battery ????? by

Revitalising an Acid Battery ?????
I've a fairly new acid battery but its gone flat through non
use over a couple months (not through a quick discharge).
It now seems to have a dead (or at least bloody lazy) cell
and though it will charge to 12 volts, quickly drops back
to 10V, and does not have the guts to realy tutn the engine
over quickly.

leaking headgasket: how to diagnose by
rill2@verwijderdit.nl
Hi,
How can I diagnose a leaking head gasket (car engine) before I remove
the cylinderhead.
known signs:
gas bubbles emerging from the radiator water,
sludge in the engine oil, shown on the dipstick,
same sludge, shown under the valve gear cover,
uneven compression when I compare the cylinders.

Silly boy by
Dave Plowman (News)
Had a rear wheelarch repair panel fitted on the SD1 by a local firm at a
good price and they made a good job. They removed the rear door to do it.
When I got it back, the electric window didn't work, so today I decided to
have a look. The silly boy had disconnected everything electrical inside
the door to remove it - rather than taking the B post cover off (four self
tappers) and unplugging two...
