FOR SALE: 1967 Vauxhall Viva HB SL90 2 door saloon (blue)
eBAY: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4566517238
Good Condition, sound bodywork, virtually rust free, kept in garage for
all her life. I bought her for £2000 with just 4500 miles on the
clock! She's been a reliable runner and a great hobby car. Now at
29,000 miles, she's got new breaks, new clutch and new exhaust....

Towing Query by
phv
Can anybody give a definite answer to a question that so called "experts"
cant agree, I'm told "well it all depends etc"
My simple question is this.
Can I tow a trailer which weighs one and half tons that will have a TWO ton
vehicle on the bed of the trailer, The trailer is fully enclosed and tri
axle.
Do I legally have to have a TACHOGRAPH fitted.

O/T SIP mig welder repair? by
Willy Eckerslyke
Slightly off topic, but you guys are more likely to know the answer than
anyone else...
My SIP Topmig Turbo 150 has just stopped working. Initially, I thought a
thermal cutout was operating as after using it on high power for a
while, the wire feed and arc stopped working, though the fan kept
running. After an hour or so's rest it would be OK. It did this for a
couple of days, but now...

40 years of the Ford Transit... by

I know the Ford V4 and York engines weren't the best designed units
but are they really this bad?...

Capri Trim by
David Harper
Hi,
Would anyone happen to have kicking about their garage the chrome strip
for the passenger door of a Mk. I (K Reg) Ford Capri?
Would they be prepared to part with it for a modest amount of cash?
Failing that does anyone know of a good Capri specialist who might be
able to point me in the direction of one?

Mk1 Capri 3000 Exhaust by
Paul Waites
Hi all,
Does anyone know a supplier of early Capri exhausts....
The back box on my 3000Gt has gone and as far as I can see they just
don't make them anymore.
Paul.

Tyre speed ratings (slightly OT) by
Simon H
Not really classic territory but perhaps the knowledgable peeps on here
might be able to shed some light on this...
This is about theoretical maximum speeds and 'speed' ratings for tyres ( R,
HR, ZR, etc for radials & FKW for crossplies). A few years back there was a
seemingly unresolved debate about fitting agricultural dumper tyres to Range
Rovers & Landies. The tyres were (typically)...

Vanden Plas by
Gary
Hello all,
Is this the a re-birth of Vanden Plas?
David James CBE, the corporate doctor who was brought in to save the
Millennium Dome, has issued details of the 'British backed' bid to save MG
Rover from falling into Chinese ownership, which is reported to require
funding of some £80-90m. It includes developing a three-model MG sports car
range, together with the provision of contract...

Escort XR3 engine emissions by
Andy Luckman (AJL Electronics)
My 1600 SS1 is in for MOT today, but there is a query from the tester about
emissions. Apparently the emissions are outside limits, but they don't know
how to adjust them. The air filter is new (ish) and the carb, a Weber
progressive twin choke is in good condition. Is this an indication that the
main jets may be incorrectly sized?

Intermittent slow cranking speed by
David Balfour
Car is a 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500. Pretty standard except for electronic
ignition and 12V coil. The battery is in good condition.
When cranking the engine on the starter, most of the time it will work fine.
Occasionally, it will crank very slowly (as if the battery was flat) then
pick up to normal speed again. Sometimes this doesn't happen at all, other
times it'll crank slowly for ages...

Quality of new classic parts by
Real Ale
Has anyone else been disappointed in the quality of new parts on
sale for classics ?
Gone are the days of getting Girling , Lucas, QH, Unipart etc
over the counters at Moss etc. Now it's noname rubbish at
quality prices.
Had to return a few items for the Spitfire recently, poor quality,
poor fit etc. rather repair / recondition what I've got or source
unused old stock from E Bay etc.

Who knows anything about the 16-seater Grummans in Ford Air Service? by
MM
In the 1970s I was working at the Ford of Europe John Andrews R&D
Centre in Cologne-Merkenich. Many engineers and later I myself often
flew to Britain on the Ford internal airline, which employed 16-seater
Grumman turboprops.
Can anyone point me to additional information about these early planes
used by Ford?
- Were they Grumman?

Throgmorton Whippet by
Richard Polhill
Throgmorton Whippet isn't related to the Spagthorpe Whippet is it?
Obviously the the twin overhead crankshaft, seven piston, diesel two
stroke engine and preselect indicators are a deviation.

Austin Taxi 2.2 Leyland diesel engine by
Roberts
Hi, A friend of mine from Sri Lanka is looking for a cylinder head for the
above mentioned engine. This engine was fitted to London Taxis some long
time ago and also the Morris LD van and the Austin version. This is needed
to complete a restoration of the engine which confusingly enough is fitted
to a Series 2A LandRover. Local modification! Thanks in advance.
