Stomberg CD175-2 carbs - off what? by Willy Eckerslyke
I was given a nice assortment of Triumph Vitesse bits recently. In the box of carbs were a pair of CD175-2 Strombergs (usual Vitesse ones are CD150s). I'll stick them on Ebay, but it would help to know what they're off. Any ideas? They have red labels on saying "emission control systems". Does that imply US spec? http://www.sos.bangor.ac.uk/~oss108/cd175s.jpg As usual, any info gratefully...

Worrying Thoughts by Bernard
I don't want to worry you but, I have just been up to the Outwoods with Alan (and Robbie) and he tells me that Diana has already decided that the Wedding will be at Brooksby Church with the Reception in the Hall and Hannah will be a Bridesmaid, and that she (Diana) is going to have a new and very expensive outfit. As I said, Worrying isn't it !!!!!. All my love. XX Bernard XX

Smelling of roses... by Ian Johnston
Hi Folks, In the next day or two I'll be laying up the DS for the winter. She lives under a cover in a nearby barn. Experience is that she stays nice and dry but that there is a bit of a stale whiff inside after six months. Anyone got any bright ideas about what I could do to counter that? I thought of Magic Tree / Feux Orange / etc but I don't really want her to smell like a Milton Keynes...

Recommendations for classic car insurance wanted by mrcheerful .
Any one know somewhere good for this? For a Ferrari, I would want agreed value, not many miles a year. I have a trade policy, but that is only up to 10000 pounds (not enough) and would probably get out of any claims somehow. mrcheerful

Anyone want a FREE caravan? by Howard Rose
Believed to be 1930's/1940's Eccles Touring Caravan. Wooden frame with aluminium skin. 16" wheels. Free to anyone who wants it... cannot be towed, and will likely be in a dismantled state as I have no other way to remove it. Has not moved since 1964, but is not rotten. Free to anyone who wants to come and collect it! Otherwise it's firewood, which seems a pity for such an old and presumably...

Use of PTFE tape by David Balfour
I'm going to fit a (used) oil pressure gauge to my Spitfire. I have all the necessary fittings, but I've read that PTFE tape is advisable on the threads. I have some tape, but I have no real idea what I'm supposed to do with it. I obviously wrap it round the thread, but how much, and in what direction? If this used gauge doesn't work and needs to be removed, is there any danger of the tape...

Vintage diesel swaps-do any survive? by Accessory Section 8
In the UK there were people putting various diesel engines in various cars in the 50's, 60's and 70's-do any of these conversions still exist and run regularly? I think they had all sorts of interesting odd( outside their native land) engines, like Gardners, Fodens, and whatnot.

About DVLA by mrcheerful .
I was surprised to get a letter from DVLA this morning, they say that someone has applied for a log book for a car of mine and is that all right? The car is in a garage remote from my house, someone has angle ground the three locks off. The car is still there and intact and someone has replaced one lock. The letter from the DVLA says that if they don't hear from me they will assume it is...

Brake switch replacement- help please by Jonathan
I need to replace the brake pressure switch on a morris 1000. I seem to recall somewhere reading that if the front of the car is elevated then the switch can be replace without bleeding the system. I would be very grateful for advice as to whether this is a practical and safe short cut or a dangerous false recollection. Many thanks Jonathan

Vehicle LIcense by pauls@zetnet.co.uk
Hi, I have a pre 1960 MG. When I got it, there was a 1997 'tax disc'. I understand that the 'tax' is free, but I can't find anything on the DVLA site. Can someone tell me what I need to do to be legal please? Apply for a normal disc? Thanks.

Vertical master cylinder a bad idea? by Willy Eckerslyke
Purists look away now... I'm just sorting the brakes on my split-screen Minor and have decided on a modification to get rid of the combined master cylinder and reservoir hidden in the chassis rail. It'll be fully reversible if anyone wants to convert back in the future. I intend to use a Landrover Series 3 master cylinder and reservoir. These are seperate and don't have a servo. The neatest...
