Wow! Thanks Everyone! by richard.ingall
Re; Ebay thread. A big 'thank you' to everyone who's taken the time and trouble to add their comments, your feedback is much appreciated. Bad feedback and poor quality photo's are two of the common themes that keep cropping up (no wonder if you look at some car ad's). Once again, thanks,

How long is a piece of string? by Pete W
This is one of the best NGs ever but after my last post regarding my dynamo it is obvious that some of you have too much time on your hands. I have devised a problem to divert your excess creative energy: I want to do the string thing on the steering wheel of my '36 MG but I've never done it before, any tips? Who can tell me how much string I will need? The diameter of the wheel is 17inches,...

Bits I cant find on my SD1 by Liam Healy
Hello, The braking is going well, engine and box came out quite well, a serious of happy coincidences meant I was able to find just the right person with just the right bit of kit at just the right time to get it all to my garage and onto the stand tonight. I could not however find anyone with a 10mm ring spanner, which meant the gearbox took a while coming off. I can't find a couple of things...

First cars: Would you want to own it again? by RichardK
I noticed the post about the Marina, and I thought about my first cars. You can't really go back of course, but my first proper, driving around on the road legally car was a 1984 Chevette L 4dr. It was totally rust-free, had 70,000 miles on it and ran like no other Chevette I've seen since, was mint inside, the underbonnet area was spotless (I used to polish it). Of course I'd love that car...

Jaguar in the UK by Richard Sauer
Hello, As it is time to purchase a new automobile, I've been looking at various Jaguar models (XJ8..specifically). I've never owned a Jaguar, and am reluctant to make a purchase given the reliability indicators of all models. I am curious as to how Jaguar ranks in the UK? Is it giving UK owners trouble? Many thanks, Rich

Radio repair? by Howard Rose
Hi, The Blaupunkt Frankfurt in my '66 has developed a rather annoying fault lately, so needs repair (or replacement). The radio works OK, but the volume control is not working as it should. On turning it, the music becomes very crackled with quite loud bursts through the speaker. FM is completely crackled and you can hardly hear the sound. Also if you find a decent audible station, then the...

Any way to find current registration of a vehicle? by Howard Rose
My Father bought a Mercedes W123 new, and it was registered as UFX30X. About 2 years later it was re-registered as TJT41. On sale of the car in the mid '80s TJT41 was removed and the vehicle given a new registration number that started and ended with an X. Is there any way to find out what that number was? It was not registered back as UFX30X. -- Howard Rose 1966 VW Beetle 1300 Deluxe 1962...

Don't worry Gromit, everything's under control by Asolepius
Just been to see The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (yes I know, I need to get a life). The most impressive bit is the remarkably authentic A35 van. They even got the handling spot on - lurid tail slides, vomit-inducing roll, and extremely rabbit-like axle bouncing. Not only that, but the colour scheme was perfect - green with cream grille, just like my first car in 1967. Oh happy days. Mind you,...

Value of low mileage Austin Healy Bugeye Sprite? by Homer
Hi, Can anyone advise on what a Austin Healy Bugeye Sprint with only 4270km on it might be worth in the UK. Fairly good condition with a reasonable interior. Sorry but not much more information as it's in an auction in Japan. Any one care to make an estimate? http://www.wellcheap.com/gallery/Homers-Gallery/sprite

Morris 1100 - any sought after bits? by Willy Eckerslyke
I spent an enjoyable couple of hours yesterday dragging a very dead Morris 1100 out of someone's hedge. It's currently sitting on a trailer in my drive ready to go to the crusher on Wednesday. Before it goes, I'll remove anything that looks remotely decent - which'll probably take about 3 minutes. My mate reckons we should keep the engine as it'd fit a Mini. Any ADO-whatever-it-is experts out...

What do you think of these compression figures? by Liam Healy
I ran a compression test on the SD1 '85 V8 today. Some background - It had been flushed and filled with 20/50. I ran it for 5 minutes at a moderate, then normal idle before doing the test. I think the temperature gauge is inaccurate (it must be running hotter

Which v8 for mgb conversion? by Liam Healy
Hello All, It's been a while since I was last here with my rusty p6, and Dave and others gave me a lot of advice. Two children later I have a new project in mind, and your thoughts would be appreciated. I'm planning to shoehorn a v8 into a post 77 mgb. The question is which v8 ? I can find nothing on line anywhere detailing the pros and cons of different choices. The SD1 seems to be a popular...

FS New not reconditioned Austin/Rover Maestro 1300 engine by Big Mc
I have for sale a brand new, not reconditioned, never been run 1300cc engine for an Austin/Rover Maestro, it is complete with alternator starter motor and distributor, I have no idea what this engine is worth so I am open to sensible offers. I'm sure there must be someone out there who would like to have this. If I don't find any takers here then it will probably end up on ebay, but I hope...
