Advisability of driving Borg Warner without prop? by
Alex
I've got a RR 200Tdi with a BW xfer box, the front prop is ducked
(specifically it's in about 4 pieces, two of which are on the road
somewhere). I know the LT230 shouldn't be driven far/fast with the
difflock on, what about the BW box? is it likely to be affected in any
way?

Car ID by
Geoff Mackenzie
Is it possible to identfy a car by its registration number? I've tried
Google and various registration sites but no luck. The car in question is
WMC 180.
The reaon I ask is that I followed this car yesterday in Horley, and I am
intrigued to know what it was. My best guess is a Paramount, a mid-fifties
1172 Ford Special - so it may be registered as a Ford, although Paramount
were...

I had S2 Daimler - in pink Great car, I was only 23 and it was a bit
too thirsty for my pay packet. It had an 8-track and I had a Hawkwind

I didn't suggest that you weren't. But it doesn't handle well not by a

It's not been my day... by
Dave Plowman (News)
Just about ready to fit the MegaSquirt. Taking my time as I want a nice
neat reliable installation. Made up a complete new wiring loom for the SD1
injection - in all the right colours.
But decided a wideband O2 sensor was the way forward - allows the MS to
stay closed loop over a far wider rev range and load. So had to get a Tech
Edge unit as the MS doesn't support one directly.
The sensor...

Im now MegaSquirted... by
Dave Plowman (News)
Finally got the MegaSquirt fitted to the SD1. Once I'd finally got it to
idle, the rest of the tuning to get it to run well was easy. Fine tuning
for max power and economy will, I'm sure, take longer. What is immediately
noticeable is how much more poke it has at low to middling revs - the old
Lucas system was known for running weak there. Downside is the power
doesn't come in with a bang at...

Anybody got a Moggy Trav & a tape measure handy...? by
Adrian
I could do with a favour...
I could _really_ do with exterior width & floor-to-roof height
measurements at the B-pillar and at the body rear.
A car cover vendor is claiming that the best cover for the (long, tall)
2cv van would be the one designed for a Trav. I reckon it's got no chance
whatsoever...

123 ignition by
Geoff Mackenzie
Post rebuild I'm having a bit of trouble with the ignition timing on my 1966
E-Type. Book says 10 btdc, but that was for 5* fuel; pre-rebuild it ran OK
at 8 btdc on Shell V-Power. Now it pinks at the top end of the rev range,
which is something I've never come across before. Retarding yet further to
6 btdc gives smooth running with no pinking but a loss of power - haven't
measured it,...

An unusual motorhome... by
Dave Plowman (News)
Went to the SD1 club spares day at Gaydon yesterday, and there were other
clubs there too. Classic taxis was one - and another sort of general one.
Which had a Rover P5 motorhome among the more usual cars. Looked not too
bad. No worse than any other similar conversion on a truck chassis.

123 Ignition by
Geoff Mackenzie
Hi - I promised to report on this.. For them what don't know it's on a 1966
E-Type, 9:1 pistons (Brit, not European or American spec). For them what
knows me of old I apologise for being boring.
First impression - absolutely excellent. Pulls strongly from 700rpm to
5,000 rpm (at which point the engine goes bang). It is, subjectively, far
more smooth throughout the rev range - and it...

Mini Domino build instructions by

Hi folks, .... this is a plea for assistance.
I am hoping that there is some kind soul out there who may have the
info I am looking for.
I am trying to track down an old copy of the build instructions (in
fact any documents drawings etc) for any of the Domino Cars - 'classic
Mini' based models.
They produced 4 types.. the Pimlico - Premeire - Saloon (i.e think it
was called the HFE) - and the...

Initially, they are asking what sort of price they could expect, and they will

Adpating self-levelling Nivomats for the SD1 Vitesse? by
Michael Kilpatrick
Anyone with an SD1 Vitesse or other older car which previously had
Nivomats but which are no longer available might feel the same - that
it's a real drag having to put up with inferior spring/shock suspension
and no self-levelling.
My question is this: is there any particular reason why one can't make
do with some Nivomats specified for current vehicles (Volvos, Vauxhall
Omegas, Mercedes...

Reviving an aged air conditioning system? by

Has anyone here successfully revived an air conditioning system in a
vehicle that has been discharged and unused for ten years?
I've long wanted to the air con working again in my SD1 Vitesse but ten
years have passed since I got the car, and that's eleven years since it
was discharged.
I have a spare new old stock Harrison compressor with its sealing plugs
still in, and a new condensor. As...
