Looking for a new classic by
Dan J.
Hi all. I've been sifting through the archives and the group has been
helpful in suggesting cars for situations in the past, I was wondering
whether you could throw some ideas at me regarding my current problem.
I used to have a Spitfire 1500 when I was a student but sold it when I had
to move house and get a proper life. It was enjoyable to drive and maintain,
although there were issues I...

Does anybody know if there was a hazard light switch as standard on a MK1

Daimler Mk2 by
Michael Musgrave
Hi, could you tell me if Daimler made a manual gearbox version of the Mk2,
and if so, how many were built. Is there a conversion I can do to convert an
automatic into a manual. Could I fit an overdrive. Any information would be
great. Did the Mk2 Jaguar have a manual box.
Many thanks for looking

Faulty BW65 box by
mike
My 1976 Rover P6 3500 developed a whining noise from the BW65 automatic box a
few months back and the fluid became very dirty. I bought another box off
Ebay and have just fitted it, but there are no forward gears working.
Reading the manuals suggests problems with the front clutch not working. Any
suggestions if this can be fixed without removing the box, or if there is
something obvious I've...

Spot weld drill - how to use? by
Tony1
I've been given an air operated spot weld drill for Christmas (lucky
man!). It comes with a support arm and I'm not sure how I'm supposed
to use this particular feature. I had assumed that the arm would be
used to support the rear of the panels I was drilling. However the arm
is fixed relative to the drill bit so, as the drill progresses into the
metal, the support arm will move away from the...

No more classics (or cars with pretensions thereof) by
RichardK
I don't think I posted in here about it, but I got an XR4i, which I
hoped would be a good 'classic' to run about it. Hard to believe it is
23 years old, if you don't know about cars at least.
Anyway, my main reason for things like that, as opposed to real classics
I'd like to own, is the cheap classic insurance - which my Sera didn't
quality for as a 'recent' Japanese import. Direct Line...

Insurance again. by
Dave Plowman (News)
The SD1 insurance is due at the end of this month, and I'm presently with
Lancaster. But I'll go with what appears the best value than simply
renewing. My main car is with Direct Line, so I thought I'd give them a
try. They give a discount for 'second' cars - and you get a second no
claims - unlike classic policies. Like for like they were about 50 quid
cheaper. No agreed value - but then I doubt...

Cooler found by
Jim Warren
Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions when I was hunting for a
transmission oil cooler. I finally tracked down a genuine Truimph spare.
It should be in the post to me as I write this.
For anyone else looking for hard-to-find Triumph parts, this site:
http://website.lineone.net/~angela-iwnet/mickdolphin/
might be worth a look.

Broke a bolt in the worst place it seems by
S1500
One of the bolts holding the oil pump. Wow, what an uncomfortable place to work in.
But I hope these left-handed drill bits(ie the 1/8th inch one is the only suitable one I bought) next weekend will do the trick.
I tired several other methods to no avail. That be some hard steel.
I shall never use a torque wrench as a regular one. 15 lbs/foot seems to be no more the bolts can take, even though...

not, how can I align it without having to buy the proper tool?

Bearing & conrod shell measurments for a Spit 1500 engine? by
S1500
It is listed the tolerances and such for thrust washers. Fine.
But I can't find anywhere the proper measurments for conrod shells & big end bearing shells. What's the proper thickness & minimally
allowable thicknesses? I'm looking at them from piston 1 & the rearmost bearing shell. They seem fine to me.
