Seen in a post office window by Jim Warren
Two weeks ago, I noticed a card in my local post office advertising a 1966 Vitesse 1600 for sale for £950 with 10 months MOT. On Friday when I was walking past, the advert was still there. No enthusiast would try to sell their classic in such a low key manner, so I imagine this is a relative or friend trying to sell it. In which case, if it doesn't sell, they might scrap it, which would be a...

Speedometer lubrication by Asolepius
I have just washed a load of black muck out of my Smiths mechanical speedo, which has been very erratic even after fitting a new cable. It now rotates freely (the main bearing at the back was rather stiff before). Now what lubricant is required? Grease, light oil, engine oil? I noticed that in very cold weather the needle reads very slow for a few miles, so thick lubricant is probably not...

E30 related stuff by deadlock
Some time ago I posted here about a LHD 320iS I picked up as a runaround whilst my 9-3 Viggen was having some bodywork done, and received some very useful replies, thanks to all who posted on that one, you know who you are. Time to ask the experts again. Acquired a 316i E30 Touring as a "spares" car, and after digging around, it's really very well sorted. Good bodywork, **** electrics (as in...

Audi self-levelling suspension? by Allan Bennett
My Audi 100 Avant has sprung a leak in the hydraulic self-levelling valve for the rear suspension. Cost for a replacement is about £640... Anyone know of a source for s/h parts or: does anyone know if it is possible to fit non-hydraulic struts to replace the wet ones? Thanks,

Name rings a bell by Willy Eckerslyke
I just read a letter in the Sunday Times motoring supplement written by Antony New - talking about his Triumph, so definitely the same chap who used to post here regularly. He was saying that wing mirrors are less vulnerable than the door mirrors on modern cars. Ten minutes after reading that, I knocked the glass out of my wing mirror by clipping a bush on my drive that I'd been meaning to...

Alvis Silver Eagle by David Betts
Hi guys I'm looking for a picture of an Alvis Silver Eagle from around 1930, preferably a coupe, to provide a contrast with some pics of an unrestored car. Any pic would need to be copyright-free or approved for one-off use (with acknowledgement) in a low-circulation local history newsletter. I'll be doing a web search as well, but any help will be gratefully received.

First electric radiator fan by Malcolm
A question for the collected wisdom. Which was the first car to be factory fitted with an electric radiator fan. The best I can do so far is the Series 2 E- type of 1969 which had two of them. I suspect earlier E- types used them as well but am not sure. I know Kenlowe started in the mid 1950's but it is original factory equipment I'm after. Malcolm
