this isn't looking good for doner car owners. by Elder
http://f-r-c800.co.uk/new_page_1.htm Thing is, a lot of restorers have doner cars, a lot of retro/classic modifiers will start with a poor condition example of a car, and a lot of the Rat Rod scene make their cars look as "unroadworthy" as possible with out them actually braking any laws. Are they really so shortsighted in local government that if it isn't shiny and concourse it is waste...

Pin for the clutch fork - '79 Spitfire by S1500
I noticed the clutch fork pin on my tranny bellhousing is not to be seen. I mean, it doesn't stick out from the top nor bottom, and there's no "circlip" that I've seen in other bellhousings. Is it possible to hammer it out and hammer in a new one without removal of the gearbox? Or would I get things out of alignment inside the bellhousing(the washers, etc) that it would be near...

Rust removal (electrolysis)? by
Electrolysis is great. Why didn't my science teacher tell me about this prosess? They told me how to make a nail rusty and how to copper plate one but not how to remove rust. Anyway thats not my question, these a 1. What is the best way to seal steel after using Electrolysis to remove the rust, will acid etch primer do the job? 2. Can I seal it with some black (iron oxide and magnetite)...

Third World London: Blind Iraqi caught driving car with banned driver by landnotloans@hotmail.com
A blind Iraqi who lost his eyes in a bomb blast was caught driving a car while receiving instructions on steering and braking from a banned driver, a court heard today. Omed Aziz, who denies dangerous driving, reached speeds of up to 35mph on a half-mile route through Oldbury, West Midlands, in April. Warley magistrates' court was told that Aziz - who also suffers from leg tremors and is...

Kill Switches by mk_ii_rebuild@yahoo.co.uk
Hi, Reading around the subject it seems the best place to kill the ignition circuit is between the coil and contact breaker + distributor. Frequently posters recommend adding an additional earth lead to the coil and closing a switch on it to kill the system. I am a little concerned about leaving an energised primary circuit and was wondering if it would be better to place a switch into the...

Traveller transmission problems by News
The saga continues ... This is a Traveller that has not run for almost eight years. When first moved, last week, the clutch would not disengage - the car would lurch forward if the starter was spun, with a foot on the clutch. Now, with the engine finally running, the clutch will not engage, i.e. the engine runs happily whether the car is in or out of gear, irrespective of whether or not...

Advice re attaching Traveller to trailer, for long journey! by Kyle
"Conor" wrote in message ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Jesus H Christ, you NEVER EVER put ratchet straps over anything that is supported by the suspension because as the car bounces up and down as you drive down the road, they slacken off and part company. You should place the ratchet straps over the tyres.

How to tell whether a car is pos or neg earth? by News
Hi. How can I tell whether my car is wired positive or negative earth? There is no battery, and the new battery would easily fit either way round - the leads are long enough. The car left the factory positive earth, but could have been changed. No, no radio either. Presumably the car would run with the battery wired either way? The only damage would be to the battery? There must be a...

Traffic Lamp Reflector ?? by Yves
I recently found in my old man's garage a black and yellow cardboard box from Ford containing a "traffic lamp reflector". It's a kind of glass lens in a metal frame, about 5 by 8 centimeters, somewhat similar to a magnifying glass, but it actually downsizes what you see. Any idea what it is? Thanks Yves

Reliant axle rebuilder needed by Ian Johnston
Hello folks, I need to find someone who can rebuild a Reliant Rebel back axle, using the differential unit (including crown wheel and pinion), which I can supply, from a tricycle. I've read it up in the manuals, and it seems to involve rather more special tools and, in particular, diff-fiddling and adjusting expertise, than I have. Any recommendations for someone who is either a) good with...

I thought I knew where to find these on the net, but they all seem to have disappeared. Anyone know where I can find such things as that nice old flowing Castrol logo, or the BP shield?

Timing ford 1100 cross flow engine? by Mike Barrett
hi I am about to do some work on a 1100 cc cross flow engine (in a 1971 Freeman 23 river boat) which will mean taking the distrubutor off. Does anyone have the correct static timing for this engine? I realise that the marina version timing might be different from the car version but at least its somewhere to start from! cheers Mike (1971 Triumph Herald)

MGB heater Valve by CB1
I've just replaced the heater valve on my 1975 MGB Roadster which was previously jammed open and very hot! However I now find that the heater works but with no hot air. I presume there is an airlock somewhere in the system. Very simply, whats the best way to get rid of this?
