NEC Classic Show by
Dave Plowman (News)
Went to it yesterday. Enjoyed the show - but the venue is the pits.
Dreadful signposting and organisation. And the food even more expensive
than usual at this sort of thing.
Was directed to the North car parks which are the furthest from the actual
show halls. But closest to the bike show - which is tiny by comparison.
On leaving - very tired with all the walking - went to the main...

limousine for VIP by
Larry[_3_]
A limousine or a limousine is a very expensive luxury car that is used
for special events like weddings, VIP transportation transfers of
guests, birthday parties and the airport. It is a very long car
usually driven by chauffeurs. Limos are traditionally white or black
in color. Today, there are other colors like pink, magenta and blue.
To find the best limousine rental, however, will have to...

Green with grey trim, or not? by
Michael Kilpatrick[_2_]
Hmm, what to do?
I have a "barn find" SD1 Vitesse (in targa red) with only 45k miles on
the clock which is awaiting restoration and a respray. Alena would quite
fancy a metallic green, fairly dark, which wasn't a standard colour for
the Vitesse, I think. The internal trim is, as expected, grey (with a
splash of walnut). The restorer suggested that dark green bodywork won't
go so well with a...

Rover 75 Tourer by
Michael Kilpatrick[_2_]
OK, it's not a classic (yet) by a long stretch, but there aren't exactly
millions of them about and I bet they'll be clasics in years to come...
So, I'm pretty upset to hear that now my father's Rover 75 estate has
been inconveniently written off by a large deer somewhere on the road
from Owler Bar and Sheffield, he's looking for a replacement estate car.
More importantly, he can't really...

Grr... by
Dave Plowman (News)
Decided to fix a small coolant leak on the SD1 over the weekend. There's a
heater pipe which runs under the inlet manifold, and elimination suggested
this the culprit. Which means a fair amount of dismantling. However, this
fitted in with changing the EFI loom for a decently made one incorporating
all the changes I've made for the MegaSquirt and EDIS ignition. Everything
was ready to fit so a day...

Registration Numbers by
Indy Jess John
I was trying to find the website that tells me which councils issued
which registration letters, but Google was useless, flooding me with
people who want to trade cherished plates.
So can someone please remind me of the site?

Bodywork repairs following accident - paint match by
BertieBigBollox@gmail.com
Got a classic 1987 mini cooper in mint condition. Well, it was until
someone ran into the back of it in a car park when it was parked.
Anyway, off it went to the bodyshop recommended by the insurer. Got it
back yesterday.
Very poor paint job. Its now blatantly obvious that the back has been
resprayed but not the whole car.
Spoke to my insurance company who said that they could not expect the

Hydrogen fuel cell by
Geoff Mackenzie
There's a full-page plug, thinly disguised as a feature (although they do
put a disclaimer at the end) in the current Jaguar Enthusiast magazine, for
a "hydrogen fuel cell" which claims to reduce emissions to zero, increase
engine performance and eliminate carbon deposits. Oh, and by the way, on
trial in an S-Type 3 litre the mpg went from 25.2 to 38.87, a 54.2%
improvement. Mine for a...

Classic car insurance - read the small print! by
Adrian Brentnall[_2_]
HI Folks
Just a cautionary tale....
When I reinsured my '64 Moggie Traveller back in May, I knew that I was
going to sell her soon - but, as Tesco had suddenly changed their
Insurance company, I ended up with Carole Nash, who gave a competitive
quote of 213 euro for the year.
Today the car sold, so I rang up the insurers, imagining that, (like

Seat Diaphragm by
Ian
I urgentky need a new seat diaphragm for my DS. Only problem: DS's
don't have seat diaphragms. Oh, the joys of an end-of-the-line South
African car.
It's the same sort of thing as a TR6 one - two hooks on the short
sides and three on the long - but about 2" bigger in the small
dimension and 3" bigger in the larger.
Anyone know a supplier who keeps or makes these for lots of different
cars and...

Starter solenoid urgently wanted by
Geoff Mackenzie
I posted about this a few weeks ago.
I need a starter solenoid for a 1966 E-Type Jaguar. The Lucas part number
is 76476A. but it does not seem to be listed in any of the Lucas
catalogues. I've tried umpteen telephone calls; the nearest so far was
JagBreaker in Newcastle (they sell new parts as well) who recognised the
number and thought they could supply from stock. Turned out they...

Any one hear 'Uncool Britannia' this morning at 10.30 on R4? All about the

sided but worth a listen.

On the news tonight by
Indy Jess John
A report (commissioned by the Labour Government) that recommends halving
the permitted alcohol levels for drivers.
I can't remember ever seeing statistics that show that drivers just
below the current level have a worse accident record than those who
haven't had a drink.
All the news stories of drink driving incidents report either the driver
(or the pedestrian that staggered into the path...

Luton Festival of Transport. by
Dave Plowman (News)
Went there yesterday - the SD1 Club had a pitch with about a dozen cars.
But what was impressive was the turnout of Vauxhalls - not surprising I
suppose given the location. Two displays, one of old and one of classics.
I dunno if some came from the Vauxhall museum. A couple arrived on the
back of trucks.
Never seen so many mint Crestas and Victors at once before.
Altogether a great day - and...

Ford 1500cc Engine by
Roberts
Hi Group
Has anybody got a cylinder head for a Ford 1500cc engine that is for sale
(or give away if you like!). The vehicle is a Ford 1500cc Cortina with an
auto gearbox year 1964 but having swopped a lot of Ford engines around I
know that a lot models had the same engine.
I am situated near the Hants/Surrey/Berks border but the car is in Sri Lanka
(where they don't need to put salt on the...

Anti-freeze by
Dave Plowman (News)
I've read that a lot of modern anti-freeze isn't suitable for classics or
older cars - it attacks the copper rads, etc. But mine has an ally engine
so needs an anti-freeze all year round to prevent corrosion. Anyone know
which brands are suitable?

Car air condition power ratings? by
Michael Kilpatrick
Would anyone happen to have a vague idea of the power rating of a
typical car air condition system (such as that in a Rover SD1)? I'd like
to have a ball-park figure for the wattage (or any scalar equivalent
such the British Thermal Units per hour) as a measure of the heat
transfer that such a system is capable.
For example, I think I've read somewhere that the radiator for a typical
car...
