More insurance snags by Geoff Mackenzie
I've just come across another potential problem with my classic insurance. I have a "named driver" on the policy, a chap I have known for years and one of the few people I trust to drive my car.... He wanted to take it (with me) to Castle Coombe for a track day, then use it to take his daughter down to Le Mans. The wording in the policy being impenetrable unless you are a lawyer or Stanley...

Insurance for convertibles by Malcolm
A warning to convertible owners - a lot of insurers seem to have put in a clause in their policy under "theft" that the car is not covered if left with the top down or the doors not locked. This is a bit tricky with my MGA which does not have door locks, and as putting the hood up and down is a long business, I often leave it for short periods with just the toneau on. Talking to my broker...

Film Work by gbubb@drytecltd.com
Anyone have experience of doing film or TV work with their classic? There doesn't seem much on the web except for big companies and an outfit called caristhestar.co.uk. Are they any good, or are there others out there? Gordon

Replacing brightwork with Stainless Steel by Classic Car Man
I'm looking to find a company that can manufacture replacement items to pattern in stainless steel instead of chrome and mazak. I'm looking for bumpers, overriders, radiator, as well as small brightwork strip. Willing to travel anywhere in UK. All help gratefully appreciated

Rotor Arm Failing by Grimly Curmudgeon
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Jim Warren" saying something like: When I lifted off and got the spark back, it obviously ignited the unburnt petrol/air in the exhaust, because 15 feet of yellow flame shot out of my tail pipe, up his bonnet and across his windscreen. He did an...

MG TC restoration by banana_wa_nanaban@yahoo.co.uk
My father may pass on his MG TC to me since he cannot afford to keep it in storage any more. We now have to decide if I take over the storage costs, sell it, or restore it (then maybe sell it). Basically, a small fortune has been spent over the last 40 years keeping this car in a dry garage and we need to be a bit hard-headed about the next stage. The car is complete and was driven into storage...

"Classic Car Man" wrote in message ... As there is almost nothing to go wrong with them, apart from arcing and shorting, what could cause them to arc or short out? Sunday Times by Geoff Mackenzie
Does anybody still have yesterday's Sunday Times - specifically the "In Gear" section? On page ten there should be an advertisement for KWE Jaguar (they re-manufacture 1980's Jaguar saloons and XJS, so there is some link to this NG!). I couldn't find it, so assumed it didn't appear, but I've just been told it did. And I've chucked out the paper. I'm quite friendly with the people who run KWE,...

Help: SP250 thermostat housing advice by Ian
Dear Folks, The thermostat housing on a friends SP250 broke in two last week - on examination it had clearly been cracking for a long time. They are currently out of stock at every supplier he has tried so I am wondering if anyone here could suggest anything which would fit. There are easy, medium and hard bits to the specification ... Easy: It's a bog standard thermostat - same pattern/size as...

loud MGB fuel pump by 69 B-rad
I have a '69 MGB Roadster project car that I am slowly restoring. The fuel pump makes an awful racket (tappity-tappity-tappity) constantly and I would like it to stop. The car runs nicely and there doesn't seem to be a problem with fuel delivery. From what I have gathered, it should tap a little when the ignition is initially turned on but should then stop. I have seen postings that mention the...

Classic classic cars? by Mike Smith
I am working on a non commercial web site (links below) parts of which discuss the history of (British) roads and road transport. I have tried to find out about fashions in car design, colouring and ornamentation to show how these have evolved. Anyone care to suggest a list of cars that defined any given decade? That is if you saw one on a photo it would probably give a fair idea of when the...
