check the brajes disengage, they could of seized by now, if need be string
the shoes out of the drums then move it.
change the oil/coolant in the engine, clean up earth points, put a fresh
battery on, take all the plugs out, drop a little oil down the bores and
turn it over by hand if all is ok try the starter, ensure there are no water
leaks/serious oil leaks and make sure you get decent oil...

Good Morning All,
My car has just failed it's MOT on a steering rack gaitor and I can't
work out what rack it is to buy the replacement.
Apparently the rack will be either a "Burman" or a "Cam Gears" - how
can I work it out?

trailer hire? by
Chris Bolus
ISTR somebody in this group has a trailer for hire near Derby, but I
can't remember who it is!
I could do with one for Saturday to collect a car that's a shade too big
for my own trailer.

I am trying to find out who supplied the original valve seats for the
triumph dolomite sprint engine. Hopefully with the aim of ascertaining
the hardess/and/or suitability for use with unleaded. The current
opinions vary,Its an alloy head so the seats will be hardened, the tr7
used the same basic engine and was supplied to the USA so it will be
ok etc, etc. I am after the definitive answer rather...

Racing a Alfa 105 1600GT by
TVS
Are there any good book or web sites detailing tuning the Alfa twin cam
engine? I'm considering racing in the BARC championship and I've been
offered a standard mid 70's Alfa 105 1600 GT. Unfortunately the body work
is, not surprisingly, very poor but the car comes with a good engine and lot
of spare parts. I also don't seem to be able to fine a supplier of Alfa
parts, standard or modified, in...

Tax Exempt by
Howard Rose
My 1964 Austin Mini hasn't been MoT'd or taxed since 1990, so the V5
states the tax class as "PLG". Is it possible to get this changed to
"Historic" without the car being MoT'd or taxed?
The car is in a million pieces at the moment, so an MoT is out of the
question!
Just wondered if it was possible to do...

I can tell you the bad. They are dangerously slow for modern traffic, and
spares are near unobtainable.

I thought that too. There was one in primer parked near here for a while

Incidentally, it's always worth checking a seller's feedback before

I helped a friend of mine to restore one of these ten years ago. Great
fun to have, but parts were and are, I believe, an absolute nightmare.

Oil and lead additive help wanted by
Alfa Romeo
Hello,
as owner of a Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 from 1973, I'm wondering wich is the
best oil and lead additive to use.
The manual tells me to use 10 W/50, but whats the difference between a 15
W/50 and a 20 W/50.
Any help appreciated

A-series crank dampers by

Can someone settle a question that's gnawed away at my subconscious for 30
years? Is a crankshaft damper of any benefit on an in-line A-series engine?
They are highly recommended for transverse engines (eg Vizard).

Hi
Please can someone tell me where I can get inner tubes with a cranked
valve (I'm not sure if it is 70 or 80 degree) to fit the early 10"
Mini wheels - my wheels are made by Dunlop and have the small central
hupcap fitted.
Thanks.

The film was "Stop Press Girl" 1949 B&W.
The car is the one in which the female lead and the intending husband

Spitfire Upgrades by
Fredster
Hi,
My 1979 Spitfire recently died a death on the A322 - either the clutch or
the gearbox has gone to the great scrapyard in the sky (sob). Seeing as
it's got to go into the garage, I thought I might as well spend a bit of
money (ok, a bit more money) on it and make some improvements. Other than
general repairs and tuning, is there anything else that anyone can recommend
that is worth...
