'76 MG Midget and '78 Spitfire 1500 engine swap? by Rick
The basic question is, can I swap a 1976 MG Midget engine into a 1978 Triumph Spitfire? To make matters worse I'm in California with all the smog requirements, fortunately both cars are already California cars from the factory. The longer story is a did a very clean rebuild of the MG engine (about $2,500) then ran into smog pump problems and sort of lost interest in the car. Body is a bit...

Removing scuffs and scratches from glass by Iain Miller
"MrT" wrote in message ... Did I imagine it, or did I once read on here that 'Brasso' (or something similar) can be used to remove scratches from car glass? It's drivers drop-glass that's scuffed (rather than scratched) vertically from worn weather strips. Dale Turley ...

Buying a Rover P6 by Willy Eckerslyke
OK, I don't need one of these, but it's local and cheap so I figured I may as well have a look. Several MOT fail points are listed, most of which sound straightforward. The one I'm less sure about is "Offside rear hub universal joint gaiter requires replacing (rubber cracked)" Anyone know if this is an easy job, or one that requires lots of dismantling, industrial sized hub pullers and the...

Stolen Car by Jim Warren
Not mine - but stolen from a road near mine and featured in my local paper... Stolen August 29th, less than 30 minutes after being parked (and locked) on a driveway, a white Morris Minor convertible with a red hood. Registration WBK 14. Very tidy - has been in rallies and shows during the last 4 years. If you see it being touted around, Bath Police Station (01225 842531) would like to know.

"Barrs Leaks" for leaking sump gasket??? by Ed Hughes
I have a series 2A Landie, with a Ford V6 which has started to leak a lot out of the front r/h edge of the sump gasket. Tightening, as far as I dare, has made little if any difference. Hanging a bottle under the car catches most of the oil (rather than my driveway) but is a temporary cure, at best, as 50 m.p.p. will bankrupt me shortly.... The problem is that the rear sump nuts are hidden by a...

Gearbox type by Smokeyone
Can anyone think of a manual gearbox that would take the power to a rover v8, not to large or heavy, and must have top gear as overdrive. I am playing around with ideas to convert such a box to mate with a transfer case in a four wheel drive project. I am thinking of a small gearbox, existing 5 speeds are bit to large. Does anything come to mind. Thanks Smokeyone

Carbon-Arc Brazing by Steve Simpson
I'm pretty conviced that these kits are not available anymore. I've scoured the net including all the links posted for me (thanks guys BTW) and nothing. As the rods are still available perhaps I should consider constructing one. Steve.

Carbon-Arc Brazing by Restoredclassic
Many moons ago I bought an Arc Welder along with a Carbon-Arc kit consisting of some carbon rods and a little handheld jig that would also do spot welding. It's long been lost in the ravines of time but I would be truly grateful if I could find another kit. I know a local shop sells the carbon rods but can I find a supplier of the jig? Can I F. . . !!! Can anyone help If I remember...
