MG EX record breakers by
Geoff Mackenzie
One for the anoraks, I guess - or, perhaps, the genuine readers of this NG.
Late fifties, the MG EX 179 and 181 won all sorts of land speed records
using a four cylinder twin-cam lump of varying capacities according to which
record they were going for.
I always thought the engine was basically a Jaguar XK cut down to a four, as
intended for the still-born XK100. This month's Classic &...

Tyres by
Jim Warren
I am having trouble locating tyres for my PI. I can find Michelin XASs the
right size, but the set on the car at the moment are BFGoodrich Momenta S/E
185/80R13 and I would rather stick with the same brand if I can. I tried
e-mailing Goodrich, but the Contact Us page on their website just returns an
error.
Does anyone now whether these tyres are still obtainable, and where I might
get...

Parking Signs e-Petition by
Tony Fisk
Local authorities have been relieved of the requirement to indicate the
time-limits and other conditions relevant to any specific
restricted-stopping area (e.g. single-yellow line or loading zone)on a sign
located at that zone, being permitted instead to provide only blanket
signage for a controlled parking zone (CPZ), the onus being on the driver to
find where the CPZ signage is.
Drivers...

compact cars by
nico
Compact Cars For Sale.
For people who would like to have a vehicle that does not use up a
great amount of gas, compact cars would be the right kind of car for
them. Aside from this, compact cars are much more affordable. People
who would not like to spend much on driving and on purchasing a
vehicle opt for compact cars.
For around $10,000, you can now own a compact car. Decide how much you
are...

Triumph gearboxes by
Willy Eckerslyke
We haven't had a thread about Triumph gearboxes for a few weeks, so
here's one.
Anybody know if the Dolomite Sprint shared gearboxes with the Stag?
Sound unlikely, I know, but I've just been comparing two side by side
and the only difference I can see is the input shaft, which is longer
and thinner on the Sprint.
The clutch slave cylinders are on different sides, but as the actuating
rod is...

Car Prices by
nico
Cars are a big investment. Since buying a car is relatively a long-
term investment, many people want to make an informed decision about
the latest prices of all models of cars before deciding on any one.
Car prices are likely to change quite often, depending on the market
conditions, introduction of newer models, competition, demand, and
many other factors. It is thus important to know the most...

Rover V-8 by
Dave Plowman (News)
I've got an SD1 EFI with a very high mileage engine. Which won't last
forever - although it's fine at the moment. Since all these engines are
pretty cheap (in relative terms) secondhand I was considering getting a
spare and overhauling it ready to swap. Many reckon the 3.9 is the best
version - but will the EFI (flapper type) from a 3.5 cope or does it mean
changing everything? It's an auto and...

Spotted in a House Clearance shop by
Jim Warren
I was having a browse in our local "quality junk" shop recently and found a
Parts List and an Owners Handbook for a Consul 375.
Is anybody looking out for these? I don't mind going back in and asking
about prices next time I am passing.

space-saver spare wheel (mini fitting) by
nona
Hi,
I'm looking for a spare wheel for a mini derived kit car. I can easily get a
12" wheel with 145/70 tyre from Ebay etc.. - but I was hoping for somthing a
little thinner to stash away.
Were any cars with mini-type hubs (4 studs, 4" pcd) ever equipped with a
space-saver wheel? At the moment I carry one of those aerosol tins that is
supposed to fix leaks - but would prefer something more...

To Stag or Not To Stag by
adrian_sawyer@postmaster.co.uk
Due to impracticalities of fitting Child Seats into the back of my
1968 Midget I am looking at swapping it for a slightly larger car,
namely a 1972 Triumph Stag.
I have always fancied a Stag but have heard conflicting information
about their reliability as an run around car (3000mi/year).
Some internet sites indicate you have to do an oil change every 3
months to prevent timing chain wear. This...

Sunbeam Rapier Fastback caravan helper springs by
Roger Hunt
Greetings urcc
I read Jim Warrens post and thought, well I've got something that I was
given recently and don't know what to do with, so ...
I have here this pair of caravan helper springs that were used with a
1971 Sunbeam Rapier Fastback, and they appear to include the necessary
fixings and things.
I also know the reg number of the vehicle concerned (which was last due
for tax in 1990,...

Polish for Classics by
Autolycus
I was so staggered by the choice of car polish in Halfords recently that
I decided I needed to hear the experience of others instead of choosing
randomly.
This is specifically for a large, black pre-war car finished in
cellulose, and I'm concerned about getting silicones near it because
some of it will need spraying in the future.
Which polish do you use, and how did you settle on your...

Capel classic car and bike show by
Geoff Mackenzie
If you live in Surrey/Sussex, the Capel Classic Car and Bike Show is this
Saturday, 18th August. Take a look at www.capelcarshow.com - all proceeds
go to the church restoration fund....
As far as I can make out, it started in the vicar's back garden nine years
ago and has expanded to a ridiculous degree. Now has major sponsorship and
a remarkable variety of entries and displays - will never be...
