Installing new valves by Skirrow
Hi, I have a cylinder head and wanted to install larger valves. I was hoping that someone could give me some info on the general procedure, most importantly, can I do it myself at home or do I need an engineering place to do part of it? Do I have to replace/cut the valve seat? It's a 12g940 Mini head with 1 5/16ths inch inlet valves. I want to

Brake Fluid woes... by Willy Eckerslyke
Phil Howard wrote: Sounds like Silicone brake fluid, for which (IIRC) neither Girling or Lockheed recommed for their seals, as they swell up...as you've found out! I thought common wisdom said you change all rubber seals before changing to silicone fluid, inferring that swelling only occurs to seals that have previously been subjected to normal brake fluid. That's what I did and a couple...

crankshaft damper by Tom van Grootel
Hello, My father is restoring a Jaguar MK2 3.4 with automatic gearbox. He has allmost finalised this project. except for one thing: During a very short test drive the crankshaft damper came off. Actually, the rubber ring which is attached to it came off, which caused the damper to detach. My father thinks it doesn't harm to drive for a while without the damper.

Help - worn handbrake ratchet (AH Sprite) by Stephen
Hi All I'm trying to fix a worn out handbrake ratchet. It seems to have been fixed in the past - signs of welding deposits and filing. I'm worried about making it worse if I attack it with a file. Does anyone have advice? Thanks Stephen

W123 'Buyers Guide' by Adam B
Rust is THE problem. The 280 engine is gorgeous. Will average 21 mpg from personal experience. The manual ones are actually nice to drive. Very mechanical feel to the gearbox. The auto is lovely 4 speed job. Should be smooth under gentle driving. No slip. Hard shifts when accelerating hard: first to second at 30mph will send the rear wheels spinning. For rust check the rear chassis legs, under...

After-crash repair: Two problems (1993 Rover 820 Vitesse) by Mr P A Latham

First problem is: The ABS light now comes on as soon as i begin driving, just driving, slowly, for a few feet causes it to come back on, i've no idea why if it's the sensor or a pretensioner, any insights? I don't know if this affects this but when the crash happened the car...

Fuel tank rust by Les Rose
I've restored the outside of the tank, but the well at the bottom on the inside has some rust. Impossible to get at of course - just about visible through the sender unit hole. Even more difficult, there's a baffle over it. Do I need to worry about this? Otherwise the tank is quite sound, and the rusty area is still strong. After 44 years it's only got to this stage so maybe it will last another...

Vehicle switch symbols by Roy Hammond
You know those graphic symbols, used instead of words, on switches and warning lights on instrument panels - especially on European cars. Where can I download a set of them from, so that I can print off labels for my switches and lights? I hope that somebody can help me! None of the web searches I've done to date have come up with the goods. And scanning from small images in paper catalogues...

waxoyl by Dave Plowman
In article , shane wrote: I've also heard that it can be used neat, but is it better to thin it down with thinners?. Yup - thinning a little can help. Also stand the tin in as hot water as you can manage - this will help it to flow better. Any help would be appriciated.
