A-series gearbox problem by
Autolycus
25 years after it last moved under its own power, and after several
abandoned restorations and five years of my intermittent labours, the
Mk3 Midget was finally ready for its first trial: it managed about a
foot before it jumped out of reverse and made horrible noises. I confess
I had just crossed my fingers over the gearbox - perhaps that's why the
car was finally taken off the road, rusted and...

Classic UK nUmber Plates by
John Daniels
I hope soemone can clear this one up.
I thought old style UK numberplates - silver on black - were only legal on
vehciles up to about 1972. The other day while visiting London I saw a red
bus - not a routemaster - with silver on black plates and it was "C" reg -
1985/6.
Does anyone know what the age limit is?
Cheers

Triumph Trunnions by
David Balfour
Hi everybody.
I will shortly need to service my Triumph Spitfire for the first time, and
was wondering
a) What oil do you use in the trunnions (I know it isn't grease)
b) How you get it in there
The obvious answer to the latter question is to use a grease gun and screw a
nipple in, but I've been advised that standard handle pump action grease
guns can't pump oil properly.

Timing Light by
Dave Plowman
My old timing light has finally bit the dust after being dropped. I fancy
one that measures the advance at particular revs, and has inductive
coupling. They seem to vary a lot in price, though. Any recommendations
for an accurate one that doesn't cost the earth - and a supplier?

TIA

Triumph Herald by
Dave
Would any one have an O/S rear over rider for a 13/60 triumph Herald. I have
the N/S so I am looking for an original one to match. It doesn't have to be
immaculate as I was going to get them re-chromed
Thanks

Sneezing Stag by
David Balfour
Hi everybody,
My 1977 Triumph Stag has developed a strange 'sneezing' sound recently from
what sounds like the front of the exhaust system. It does not seem to be
road or engine speed dependant, but is gradually getting worse. The sound is
very similar to a gentle sneeze.
Does anybody know what could be causing this, or how serious it may be?
Thanks,

Old mini by
Mike G
Older mini, with piano type hinge on opening rear quarter light.
I'm replacing the hinge on one of these windows for a friend,
after it came adrift due to rust.
My question is.:-
Is the hingepin visible on the outside of the car or the inside?
I suspect the outside as it would be difficult to fit otherwise,
but I want to make absolutely certain before I seal and screw it
in position.
TIA.
Mike.

'67 MB250sl Parts by
John McGinley
I have just bought a very clean MB 250SL 1967 But the heating controls that
protrude through the dash have all been broken off. The remnants are still
in the car and it seems the plastic (bakelite?) has just perished and given
up. Has any one got some info on where to source the replacement components
and has any one ever removed an replaced this piece. Is it hard or could an
average DIYer tackle...
