Default Bodywork repairs following accident - paint match

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Jerry"
saying something like:

Yes YOU are, your posting history goes before you...

Priceless!
Jerry, jerry, jerry - all that I've seen from you is repetition of
others' work. The snappy original comeback soundly defeats you, as is
right and proper for one of such dim wit as you.
I shall call you 10Watter from now on. Actually, that's being too
generous - a 10W CFL isn't really all that dim, so how about 2Watts.

Is "business accruement" where you get behind and a lot of work piles
up?

In a dung pile, by the sound of his workshop.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Richard H Huelin
saying something like:

I have been working in the trade for nearly forty years and admit
some colours where difficult to match, perhaps I've been very
lucky but in all that time I/we have always managed to match an
existing colour, the vehicle would not be allowed out the paint
shop unless the colour matched properly.

Your excellent and detailed post confirms my experience and the views of
the professional painters I have known over the years. There is simply
no valid excuse for the shoddy way in which the OP has been treated.

Indeed. Jerry notwithstanding, I can recall numerous repair jobs (paid
by the insurance companies) where the routine thing to do was blend in
the new with the old, and not just lazily take the new up to a panel or
seam and stop dead. It took a little extra time, but it was normal.
Perhaps, the real problem now is the lack of pride and skill in
painting, same as with many other trades, where a quick and dirty job
can be got away with, as long as too many customers don't complain.

I'm sure you didn't intend to offend every single agricultural
engineer in the country with that remark, but then what would a
city raised grease monkey like you know about farming, apart from
how to put green wellies on...

Tell me Grimly, do you, would you, work for nothing (and in some
cases pay to work on someone else vehicle), what do you not
understand about the fact that repairers can only do what they
are being paid for - pay peanuts get monkeys, that goes for
insurance cover as much as the repairs.

This is exactly why the OP should have bought classic car
insurance; old cars will get minimal repairs (or surcharges for
"Betterment") assuming that they are not just written off, if the
owner is lucky with the option to keep salvage.

Grimly, I suspect he will soon be asking how many years experience you
have as an agricultural engineer/farmer.

Jerry, did you contract piles by rolling in clue musk and performing the
nudie clue mating dance in the middle of a field full of horny clues at
the height of the clue mating season? Such weird behaviour could
explain why you are a complete pain in the arse, why not nip along to
your local chemist and see if they can fix you up with something to
alleviate your condition?

I would have thought your statement about the finish expected was
in excess of Rolls Royce, could be construed as an insult to Rolls
Royce sprayers.

In my experience the actual paint finish at Rolls Royce could not
be perfected any further.

Stephen.

YET again - they need to mix the paint to match the car, not
the code.

I'm presuming that, in the time this thread's been going,
you've actually taken it back to them and complained about the
paint match? What was their response?

Garage you mean. Told me that they couldnt do any more because
insurance had only paid them to paint the back.

So they haven't even tried to do it properly by the sound of it!

I have been working in the trade for nearly forty years and admit

Blush -)

I know it doesn't help the OP this time, but it may help other
people reading this who may find themselves in the same situation
to be more aware.

Stephen.
