Default New Engine for 33 16v

In the light of the above post about 145 engines, (On alt.autos.alfa-romeo)
does anyone know where I can get a reasonable engine for my 16v Alfa 33?

Also, has anyone fitted a TS 2.0 engine to a 33 yet? Is it an adventure in
engineering, a doddle or a no-go?

How about fitting a 16v 33 engine to it ?
It's one of Alfa's nicer engines.

Somewhere between an adventure and a no-go, I'd have thought.

The nose is very low on the 33 so I have a feeling that it won't
physically fit.

I'd say it's a no-go unless you're prepared to do some serious chassis
modifications.
The TS2.0 being a 4 in-line is about twize as long as the extremely short
boxer. The unit would protrude through the grille and hood and you'd need to
remove the 33 engine&suspension support from front of the car and replace it
with something else.
Also the engine's mass center would move more to the front causing extra
weight on front wheels and lightening the rear and most likely ruining the
handling.

Anyway, if you're determined to have a bigger engine in 33 you could study
following possibilities (I don't know how any approval engineer would ever
approve these for street use, but anyway):

1)The 155 or 164 TS2.0 might fit in if you build a dry sump oil pan and
remove all extra stuff from the engine bay. In this case you'd need to
change the gearbox as well.

2) Remove the back seat and place a TS2.0 or the V6 behind the front seats
to drive the rear wheels. The gearbox is of course bit of a problem. You'd
need to modify crank and flywheel to accept clutch (or if you can find an
ALFA6 engine which has the clutch in the engine) so that you can attact the
gearbox directly to the engine.
I doubt if the 16V33 gearbox can handle the torque, but maybe a couple of
weeks anyway before it explodes, but there's lot of them around so no
worries. Also there are these ZF gearboxes used in Maserati Merak and Bora
and DeTomaso pantera, so this could certainly handle the power.
Another option is to use the 164 3.0V6 and gearbox and place them
transversely.
The last but not least problem is the rear suspension, but by mounting a
modified 75 DeDion axle you might be able to solve the problem. The problem
with the DeDion axle is that the front pivot point would be located in the
sump so the axle should be modified to have a larger room inside the axle.
