"AWM" wrote in message ... "Les Rose" wrote in message ... Those who have followed my posts will no doubt have sussed out that I'm building a 998 for my Frogeye. Has anyone worked out how to fit an A+ Metro distributor into a pre-A+ block? I have the different drive shaft and forked retainer, which Vizard in his book says I need, but he says nothing about what to do with them (being the polite soul that he is). The original dizzy suffers points bounce at anything over 6,000. Funny thing that racing Imps ran the same type of dizzies at up to 10,000 rpm without points bounce problems, and fitting electronic ignition produced no measureable power gain. To avoid points bounce just fit the more modern 1 piece contact set they have lower ineria so can follow the cam at much higher RPM. You should also be able to use the same drive shaft if you change the dog on the distributer (assuming both are Lucas units). Thanks everyone for this plethora of interesting answers. Special mention to ops for the fascinating link re Hitachi dizzies. May not fit though as greater length may not clear steering column - not a problem with transverse engines. That's why they usually fit a side entry cap on RHD Sprites. Still not quite sure what to do, but all good food for thought. |
