Tata Safari Diesel pump by George[_3_]
I have been offered a Tata Safari (suitably cheap) and following adverse comment, I would like to know what experience shows to be the weakest points. What about the engine/fuel system. I am looking for a cheap car that will pull a heavy trailer and run on biodiesel. Does anyone know what the injection pump actually is? It looks big enough and I can throw scrap in the back, etc....

Softroading Oxfordshire by Rob Cook
Hi there Looking for friendly advice really, are there any good places in or around oxfordshire other than the tiny stretches of ridgeway to take the family on some gentle softroading - perhaps ending up in a nice picturesque spot for a picnic! Any help greatly appreciated. Rob

Ford Maverick tow weights by Arimus
Anyone able to let me know what the towing limit (from manufacturer's info - not the 85% rule) is for a 2.7TD 1997 Ford Maverick (the 123 bhp variant)... I'm currently seriously considering buying one as a tow vehicle for towing a horse trailer... TIA.

Hilux 4 wheel drive by Tim Lamb
Something I have been putting off. For some months, the lever to engage 4 wheel drive on my ancient (K reg) Hilux has refused to move. I assumed that this was due to dirt/corrosion/lack of use in the linkage and asked my garage to free it off and lubricate during a routine service. When I collected the vehicle they admitted that the problem was beyond simple measures and might involve gearbox...

X-Trail v CR-V by curious
Hi, I'm thinking of using my motorbility money towards a "softroader". I don't need a full blown 4WD but I do need the ease of access they offer with the high driving position. I@ve narrowed it down to either an X-Trail or a CR-V, both having advantages and disadvantages for me. Any views on which to choose? (The Freelander is out on cost grounds :( ) TIA for any help.

Lexus by dave
I am thinking about buying a Lexus RX300 SE the pre 2003 model. Anyone out there feel strongly about this car one way or another and would like to comment? Does the engine have a timing belt or chain and what is the replacement period? Is there any major problem to look out for? I know the car is not really intended for off road use, so don't be too rude. I like the idea of being high up...

P 38 Range Rover Total brake failure by spike
I have just experienced the complete failure of the ABS booster accumulator with the result .... no digital warning, no split system braking and a could not really care less approach from the local dealer backed up with the comment that I was lucky that the relay did not cause a major under bonnet fire. This is a vehicle bought pre owned from the dealer and fully serviced by the dealer in the...

Which 4x4 can legally tow the most weight? by Classic Car Man
I'm looking to spend about £6-7K on a rugged 4x4 but it must have both a good carrying capacity inside (at least 60" with the back seats down) and be able to legally tow a trailer and load of about 3500Kg. I'm not interested in 7 seats as I will normally only have me and 1 passenger anyway. It must be reliable and able to go off-road across fields from time to time. Am I asking too much from a...

Parking Signs e-Petition by Tony Fisk
Local authorities have been relieved of the requirement to indicate the time-limits and other conditions relevant to any specific restricted-stopping area (e.g. single-yellow line or loading zone)on a sign located at that zone, being permitted instead to provide only blanket signage for a controlled parking zone (CPZ), the onus being on the driver to find where the CPZ signage is. Drivers...
