I would only use the term Ms if I needed to address a female that I did not know if she was a Miss or a Mrs, and only as a last resort if I could not find out for certain which it should be, as I have always though of Ms as being pretty insulting. Surely 'Ms' Crowe knows whether she is a Mrs or a Miss???????? Quite. I never use that made-up politically-loaded term if I can possibly help it. I just make my mind up (according to purely subjective criteria and based on such evidence as is available) whether the person concerned is to be addressed as "Miss" or "Mrs". If the recipients don't like it (they never object either way, I have to say), they can always make it clear which one of those two is the more appropriate. |
