Default OT Speeding Tickets

Saturday, perfect weather, A38 dual carraigeway (Devon), mid afternoon

102 MPH in a 70 by speed camera.

I'm 25, 3 points (speeding SP30 with £30 fine about 6 months ago), Vauxhall
Cav 1998 Auto

Mitigating circumstances: Self employed web designer, need transport to meet
clients, it's my livelihood, without car I lose my business. Not only that,
my business partner doesn't drive and would probably lose the business too.
And I'm so so so so sorry )

Anyone care to make a guess to my punishment?

Maybe you should have thought about that before speeding. If you're gonna
speed you should be prepared to get caught, cos you will one day.

One of the benefits of driving a Land Rover is that there isn't much chance
of picking up too many speeding fines.

I'm not moaning at you here, I've had plenty of speeding offences in the past
on bikes. One resulted in a totting up ban for six months.

Anyone care to make a guess to my punishment?

30 over the limit is instant ban, no?

IIRC, you'll need to prove "exceptional hardship" to escape a ban.
The fact that your business partner may well suffer as a result may
enable you to do this. However, if the business really is in danger
you owe it to yourself and your partner to get competent legal
representation.

Depends on length of ban. I could do without it for a week, fortinight,
month or maybe even a quarter. 6 months/year is pushing it though (

My brother got no points, 1 week ban and £200 fine, but he needs car as he's
a social worker for abused children, so his mitagiting cicrumstances were
'good'. He was doing 104 in a 70.

I think it's up to the magistrate - just wondering if anyone else had
eperiences or a better idea of how things go

Cheers

Oh - I know I was in the wrong, I'll admit I was in the wrong, take full
responsibility and deserve the punishment no matter what it is. But still
nice to find out what I am facing.

I was thinking that Mr 25 year old with a lawyer seems a bit OTT and cocky -
like "were up for a fight". Whilst a smartly dressed 25 year old, going into
court with his mum looking worried may be more genuine and a better option

Suggestions ?!?

they will ban you
up to a year
but mitigating circumstances may reduce this
you will probably get a 6 point fine at the very least, plus costs, and the
fine as well (how ever much that will be)

the "mum looking on concerned" might work, but they'll only lop a few months
off rather than let you go with a 14 day thing

after all, you don't earn £90k a week and don't play for a big football team
do you

im not taking a guess at your punishment but what you deserve is a life-time
ban.
im not one of these 'anti-this' and 'anti-that' kind of people but the harsh
reality of it is that speed does kill. just 1 slight error by anybody that
was in the vicinity at that time or an unexpected fault with your car could
have caused a fatal accident with you travelling at that speed.

bans dont slow people down but im sure as hell that causing a death would.

HAND

Large fine and several weeks ban, I'd have thought. Plus horrendous
insurance at your next renewal.

102mph real world speed will have been close on 120mph on the speedo. On
a dual carriageway this is likely to have been pretty damn dangerous.

I'm not one of the anti-speeding brigade, but I have to say that 102mph
on a dual carriageway is taking the **** more than slightly, and
everyone knows that 30mph over the limit is an instant ban - I take a
lot of care in ensuring that any speed I do is less than 30mph over so I
am likely to get only points and a fine if caught.
