For what its worth, I do 45,000 miles a year in a reasonably fast car and
consider speeding fines/tickets etc as a hazard of the job. The two times I have had to appear in court for regarding speeding and have just gone along to represent myself I managed to come away without a ban, having claimed mitigating circumstances. The twice I have instructed solicitors to put forward my mitigating circumstances I have received a ban both times. If I were you I would represent yourself, I believe if you are fairly articulate your passionate plea and the fact that you are prepared to do this yourself goes a long way in your favour and sounds so much more convincing. Good luck. "Aaron Whiffin" wrote in message ... Saturday, perfect weather, A38 dual carraigeway (Devon), mid afternoon 102 MPH in a 70 by speed camera. "ah" wrote in message ... I was stopped at 135mph on M62 at 5.00am one morning, it was a very sunny and clear morning virtually no cars on that stretch of road, one of those days where you just want to enjoy being in harmony with your car. The copper eventually, after the usual safety checks, said "just get on your way, take it as a severe warning cos its a lovely car and if I do you you wont be driving it for a long time and thats if you can afford the insurance when you get your licence back!" Now thats a sensible attitude! Of course speed kills, thats just a ridiculously stupid statement. If you are walking along the pavement and bump into another walking pedestrian its unlikely you will get hurt, the same scenario but its Kelly Holmes coming running around the corner you bump into and its likely you will get knocked over, step into the road and bump into a car doing just 20mph and its going to hurt alot more, the same car doing 50mph and you are likely to be dead. Very obvious really isnt it. But what actually causes most of the problems and deaths on the roads is simply bad driving, that does include, but is no way limited to, driving too fast for the conditions or surroundings but it also includes realising you are tired and need to stop for a while and many other different sceanrios that will all cause death and destruction on our roads. So in my opinion its down to better education of drivers. I raced sidecar outfits, cars and rallied cars. Until I started racing I was a crap driver, albeit a fast crap driver, but then I became very aware of how cars handle under certain conditions at speed and it improved my road driving immensly. Our current system of driving test should change and include much more about understanding how cars work, driving techniques, motorway driving, fast driving, driving in different conditions inc night driving etc etc. and a possible track day out (paid for by the testee) in some crapmobile £10 ****ter to see exactly what can happen when you overcook things at least it's safe and you can also brag to your mates that you can't drive in a straight line without hitting the nearest bit of nothing and flipping the car over ![]() " dojj" wrote in message ... got pulled on the M25 I "averaged" 140 mph on that journey even the helicopter couldn't keep up, which is why I got a slap on the wrist and told "slow down sonny" as the copper drove off it all depends on who you meet if you get a tug from plod, but the camera's just don't give a **** and will screw you as soon as you get a picture on them "Richard Kilpatrick" wrote in message .. . Yep, 107mph average for me was 125 on the Marea's speedo. Bloody lethal, those little 1.6 estate cars... I didn't even get prosecuted. i do break speed limits at times - the times when i know for sure there is
absolutely no danger of anybody else being involved if theres a mishap. eg - main roads - no other cars about and no up-coming junctions where there might be an unsuspecting driver waiting to pull out thinking that the car thats approaching is actually sticking to the limits So 102 in perfect weather, on a straight dual carraigeway in normal traffic all doing 80-110 (yes, everyone was going fast) I know it's illegal and I deserve my punishment etc, but I think it was safe .... |
