This is a very economical and fast car, I average 49mpg on most journeys.

Pardon? Check the trip computer - I do think it depends on your driving
style and I am doing a constant speed of around 50-60 mph on dual
carriageways I think you will find it is valid.

So you're the **** slowing down the HGVs

My 1.8 Golf Gti Mk II used to /average/ 46mpg. At 70-80mph, not 50. For a
lightweight bit of Frog scrap do do worse when driven slower isn't much to
write home about

Very true, but 49mpg isn't worse than 46mpg. Unless you're Tim Kemp of
course, who strives to get the lowest possible mpg from any given car :-)
