I spent a few hours on working on the SD1 yesterday (in the sunshine). Now has new rear dampers, new (2nd hand) aluminium induction pipes, the temp gauge works and it's clean and tidy. So it's all ready for a guy to come and look at it today. And the bugger hasnt turned up. That's 2 no-shows in 2 weekends. Nobbers. On the plus side I ventured into London village last night and picked up...

to be spannering on cars. Fortunately, I have the wiper motor swap down to a fine art. 45 minutes from start to finish. Not my best time, but I managed to get them wiping the wrong way initially. New motor is stickered up 'Nippon Denso' - I hope it's better than the Bosch it replaces. Finally found one with the waterproof rubber cover, too - I reckon that

About two years ago, the signpost in this photo cost over £500 (to supply & fit the sign and pole). There's got to be some overcharging but I'd like to get a rough idea of how much. http://bayimg.com/image/famnfaaba.jpg Could you give an estimate of the approx cost for the following. Details are given below.

3rd 156 wiper motor replacement in as many years. Made by Bosch. The only bits of Mrs H's 156 that have gone wrong have been the German bits. Maybe I shouldn't be such a cheapskate - I always keep a used one in reserve (cost me under a tenner a time) - perhaps buying a new one might actually be worthwhile.

Hi I have this problem that the anti-slip foot pad on my clutch pedal fell off. I thought I'd got it back on, but a few days later it fell off again. It's really awkward to try to force it onto the pedal. Is there a trick (e.g. using pliers)? Are my fingers just not nimble enough? Would getting a new pad help (from where?)? Or should I seek professional help? Cheers!

A Mega van. To be precise, the two cylinder, "long" wheelbase diesel. An interesting few minutes, I only went round the block. Quite hilarious and much amusement for SWMBO and the pedestrians in the vicinity, for once presumably feeling they were harder than the traffic. Are there any that don't? My Focus is pretty good in this respect being the newest car I've owned for a while and not afflicted by bleeding great holes in the undercarriage like the XR2i that preceded it but it still steams up inside, mainly on the front windscreen, on particularly cold and damp days. My wife recently had her fifth accident in 6 years, writing off our Saab 9-5. So, to replace it I need a safe car. It also needs to be auto, as she never got the hang of the gear stick thingy in the middle of the car. Thanks to all who offered advice on this topic recently. I can now give you the following feedback. Plastikote is not made for exterior finishes. Certainly not on cars. Hi, I just bought a Peugeot 307 1.6 HDi 90 and there's something odd about the stamps in the service book; i) The first stamp is just a sticker which says, "The previous operator of this car was contractually obliged to maintain the vehicle observing Peugeot service requirements and so the validity of the warranty is not affected by the absence of a dealer stamp in respect of the first service."
