If the details are right and it has full history?

It's a 14 year old car. Chances are that at some point it will have been
neglected. If you just need comfy and reliable then buy something fairly
new and cheap. Like a Mondeo at 4 or 5 years old.

Big *DING*. Even if you have to do the unthinkable and borrow a few quid
for it, at least you'll have something that works and doesn't have a
massive bill round the corner for a change.

TBH there shouldn't be any need to borrow. My 406 was two and a half grand
and has had most big bills like cambelts out of the way. Needed a set of
disks (£40) and could do with new indicator stalks (£75 to £150 depending on
new or refurbed), and according to todays sums is managing nearly 47mpg.
Which is rather good. OTOH it's ****ing deathly dull, but all the controls
are light so it's about as good as a manual car gets for trundling up and
down the motorway and sitting in traffic on the motorway.

Much like Carl, I rather fancied something interesting, but I twigged fairly
soon on that anything old and good also tends to be rather complex and
expensive to repair (ie, old Mercs and BMWs), with 15 different common
faults to look out for and the added factor of rust. IMO the modern
repmobile has caught up with the NVH levels of the Executive repmobile of a
few years back, and tends to be cheap cheap.
