No reason why they should realy. All they should be interested in seeing is
your money. If you make a big claim they will look for ANY excuse to not
pay out and this would include you not being able to produce the
certificate.

I had an accident which was considered my fault, my lpg converted car
was insured with Churchill, and they paid for it, no problems at all
(the damage was around 2K). I don't think they even asked whether I
had the certificate, they just asked whether the conversion was done
by an approved installer (without specifying approved by who).
