Hi,
Apologies for this question in advance.
I have a vw golf 1.6 2001 and dont know if its water or air cooled how do
I find this out ?
Cheers
Volkswagen's first car the VW type 1 more commonly called the Beetle in
the UK and Bug in the USA (and Käfer in Germany) was air cooled and all
subsequent mainstream cars from VW upto the early seventies were all air
cooled. The first mainstream VW car that was watercooled was the VW K70
all the mainstream cars from VW including the new Beetle (and all Golfs)
are watercooled.
The difference between air cooled and water cooled engines is that an air
cooled engine uses air to cool the engine using a big fan and ducting, a
water cooled engine uses water to cool the engine pumping the water from
the radiator around the engine.
Almost all new cars today are watercooled the only exception may be a
Porsche 911 but I believe the latest incarnation of this car is also
watercooled.
hay Ralph
