Bad coil (cop) which is not uncommen for these engines.

Driving along on the motorway yesterday @ 60mph, I heard light "pop"
sound. Since then, the engine light
is flashing on/off and cars is mis-firing, as though 1 of the spark plugs
is not firing. I also noticed a a small oil
leak on the drive today, it has never done that before ever. My usual
garage is unfortunately
closed until the new year.
It is 2002 model with 101,000 miles with full VW SH and cambelt was
changed last month.

If anybody has any ideas / similiar experience any suggestions greatly
appreciated.
