I work for VW group and can confirm that the main problem is with the
newer fan type washer jets, as JonB says they do tend to crystallise and
block the jets.
This is s much bigger problem with heated jets.

You can add a little methylated spirit to the washer bottle to help, but
is best to use the proper stuff.

It is the fan type, I think I will be able to holdout until
Monday....the'proper'stuff is not expensive and lasted me over a year.
