Default Mk 2 8v Golf Gti speedometer

After having a new clutch installed in my 1989 8v Golf Gti (pb engine and
big bumper model), I have noticed that the mileometer and trip meter on the
VDO type have ceased to work. All other functions are ok (speedo, revs and
MFA). Told it might be where the cable connects to the speedometer has
broken. Any ideas? Asked around for price of second hand dial but need part
number first but don't want to dismantle unless I have to. Quoted part 533
957 033 M from ETKA but breaker says this is a Corrado number although
printout shows following

Model GO
Year 1989
MG 9
SG 57
Illus 239-00

Any thoughts or help very welcome.
